Trio of Birthday Cards

Welcome to Masculine Card Monday here on my blog! Today I'm sharing a trio of birthday cards I can donate to my Mom's old nursing home and once again they were inspired by the June 2021 Sheetload of cards. I had gone through this older 6x6" paper pad and the coordinating ephemera and made up little 'kits' that I could just pull out and assemble. A lot of the 'kits' used the June 2021 Sheetload of Cards which is a great one for using those 6x6" papers.

I just kept making up the 'kits' until the paper and most of the ephemera was gone, then I decided on card bases to add to the 'kits'. I've been picking away at the 'kits' and completing the cards. 

Here is a peek at the inside - they are all done the same. I used my Mini Misti to make quick work of the stamping, which always helpful with a larger stamp.

Trio of Birthday Cards

I thought I was done with this 6x6" patterned paper pad, but apparently I had set aside 'kits' to work on later 😂   Most of those 'kits' used the June 2021 Sheetload of Cards for cutting the patterned paper & the intended layout. Since I'm also trying to use what I have, I pulled out these old felt stickers and added them to the cards on a die cut oval. The sentiments were stamped on card stock strips & popped up with foam tape.

All three of these cards will be donated to my Mom's old nursing home and I believe there are three more 'kits' for me to make up. I have to work at building up my nursing home card stash again, as after delivering the last ones I'm fresh out!

Second Set of Birthday Cards

Today I'm sharing the second set of Birthday Cards I made using a 6x6 paper pad & coordinating ephemera. You can see the first batch HERE if you are curious! (So far, I've made 8 cards)

I took a couple of evenings, cutting down the papers in the package to work with the June 2021 Sheetload of Cards (a favourite). I chose  ephemera to match and have them stored in a plastic bag. I know how busy things are going to get in the next couple of months, so I want to get a jump on my nursing home donation cards. This way I can just reach into the bag and pull out the pieces to quickly complete a couple of cards!

For the border strip, the sketch shows the patterned paper going right to the outer edge, I did that on some and on others I left a border.

First Set of Birthday Cards

I pulled out a 6x6" paper pad from my stash that had a coordinating ephemera pack. A couple of years ago I took advantage of an Echo Park sale when we were visiting Arizona and I'm realizing that I haven't used much of what I purchased (papers/stickers/ephemera).

Once I got flipping through the pad, I figured I could just work cutting down the paper pad until it was gone, so I chose a Sheetload that worked with 6x6" papers (the June 2021 is a favourite) and then started to choose paper combinations.

It took two evenings, but I got all the papers selected and cut down as well as the elements chosen and stored everything together in a clear bag. Now all I have to do is to pull out the pieces I want to work on to finish off the cards! These are my first ones, and they will be donated to my Mom's old nursing home.

For the horizontal border strip, the sketch shows the patterned paper going right to the outer edge, I did that on some and on others I left a border.  

There are two 6x6" sheets leftover which have a music print on them. I put them aside to work with one of Karen Burniston's new release dies - the Piano Key's Pop Up die set. 🥰

Birthday Cake Peel Off Birthday Card

Hello crafty friends ...

It's Masculine Card Monday here on my blog and today I'm sharing a Birthday Card made with bits and pieces from my stash. The Birthday Cake is a Peel Off from Elizabeth Craft Designs, adhered to water colour paper and painted with water based markers and a wet brush. After fussy cutting it out, something must have distracted me and it never did make it onto a card.

I pulled it out, and also a chevron patterned journal card from a Project Life kit. The ombre panel is from a printed note card. Since they are printed front and back, I generally cut them in two so I have two panels, and one of these was set aside for another project.

The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions Simple Strips Birthday with the coordinating die. I love that with a single stamping, and a single pass through my die cutting machine, I have a whole bunch of Birthday Sentiments to use!  A few Black Nuvo Drops and a glitter pen and my card front was done.

Llama Birthday Card Duo

Hello crafty friends ...

The Llama Llove continues in my craft room, and back in January I finally purchased this adorable Llama set from Taylored Expressions. It had been on my Wish List for a long time and it's going to work great for birthday cards and beyond!

I started out with an ombre A2 card, that I cut in half so I could use both the front and back sides and create two backgrounds.

When I was finished with the cards, I felt like they needed something in the upper left. The stitched clouds from Karen Burniston's Outdoor Scene were just was I was looking for.

The gift stack and scarf are separate stamps & dies, and there are a couple of different faces you can add as well. OMGoodness, this little guy just makes me smile. I think I need to stamp and colour a whole pile of them to have on hand to admire and play with. Ahem, I mean to add to cards, of course. Wink.

Karen Burniston Riley/Darkroom Door Blog Hop!!

Good morning friends - it's time!!!

Today's post is part of a huge Blog Hop, and you should have arrived here from Teresa Abajo's blog. If you get lost during the hop, I have listed all the participants with linked websites at the end of my post. You will want to be sure and check them all out, as there will be a TON of inspiration and prizes too.

I have TWO fun Pop-Up cards to share today. I have included lots of photos, since many of the people who will be visiting from the hop may not be familiar with Karen Burniston's Pop-Up dies.

I loved SO many of the Darkroom Door stamps and stencils, honestly I had trouble choosing which ones stamps to use for the Blog Hop. It was practically an 'eeny miny mo' scenario. I will definitely be adding more of them to my collection.

The one stamp that jumped out at me first, was this Sitting Dog image - it reminded me so much of our old Brandi girl. The Circle Background image is one I knew I'd get a lot of use out of so I chose that one too.

To create the colourful background, I first embossed the background stamp on several panels with white embossing powder. Then I pulled out my Magical Shakers and did a little 'sprinkle and spritz'. I just love the fun backgrounds these water colour powders make. The bonus to use the Magical Shakers, is that you get a bit of shimmer as well. On this card, I like how the dog is peeking through the circular window.

I added the large Happy Birthday, and added glitter to the bottom part for sort of a 'dipped' look.

Inside is where all the fun is! I used the Katherine Label to Pop-Up so the dog spins up & pops out as the card is opened.

This Paint Drip stamp is SO cool, and I'm going to have fun with it in my Art Journal pages too. To get this multi coloured image I used the MISTI and I have to say it would have been nearly impossible without that stamping tool because the marker ink would dry too fast. I used markers and coloured & stamped one drip at a time and still ended up with perfect placement. 

I used the Alphabet Texture Stamp with watermark ink to create some additional interest to the card background. This is another stamp that will see lots of use in my Art Journal pages.

I used the Crosshatch Rectangles as an area to stamp the Stampin' Up greetings - this card is for our youngest Grandson's birthday.

You get so much dimension from the Katherine Label Pop-Up - and you can animate so many things!

Onto my second card for the hop:

The front of my card is very plain & subdued in a simple black and white colour theme. When I chose the crayon stamp, this card is what I had in mind.

When I added the words inside, I didn't check the placement through the front window. At first I was disappointed that you could see them but then decided that since the card front was SO plain I like that there is a little hint of something fun inside.

And inside, there is a LOT going on!!

I chose to use the Circle Charm Pop-Up in a vertical orientation instead of a horizontal, which allowed me to stamp the crayons across the top. Because the card base was cut from Bristol Smooth card stock, I was able to use my Zig Clean Colour makers. They blend beautifully on this card stock and I love the bright vibrant colours even when blended with a water brush.

I do realize that the word Colour is not spelled with our Canadian spelling, mostly because the letters were too crammed in if I added the 'U'.

Finally, here is a side view of the Pop-Up card.

Paper Pro's Challenge Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends

Hello and welcome to our  Paper Pro's challenge for July. The Paper Pro's are a group of creative friends that used to make up the Designer Challenge Team when Karen Burniston was a licensed designer at ECD. We continue to share and challenge each other and this month Raquel issues the challenge:  In A Name - Use a die that has a letter from your name or names.

Of course, I used the Katherine Label (K for Karen) for my card! The Narwal stamps were in my recent Pink and Main order so I wanted to use them as well. Since Narwals are often called 'The Unicorns of the Sea' I went with a whimsical colour scheme.

I'm actually giving you a bit of a sneak peek as well. The circle background stamp is by Darkroom Door and I received it for an upcoming blog hop. I'll give the details on how I made the background on the 24th, which is when we are doing the hop. But I had a leftover panel and decided to use it for my card today rather than find something else to use and hang onto this panel until after the blog hop card is posted. The colours worked so well with my fun Narwals!

As the card is opened, the Narwal that could be seen through the front window pops up and you also see an additional two Narwals!

I used a stencil inside, just random areas, picking it up and moving it around to add colour.  Once it was done though I decided I wasn't crazy about the random overlapping. I'll use it 'properly' the next time.

These Narwal stamps are so cute, all decked out in party gear.  They were a lot of fun to colour.

You get such a lot of dimension with the Katherine Label - it's a fun Pop-Up and one I get a lot of use from. In the photo below you also et a better look at the fun Pink and Main stencil.
