Gnome Oval Frames Pop Up

Hello crafty friends ...

Today I'm sharing a card made with several die sets from Karen Burniston's NEW RELEASE, which will be shipping this week. This is one of those cards that is much better to see in a video (or in real life!) so I have a YouTube video for you:

I really like the new Pattern Plate Fronds, so added it to a white panel and lightly water coloured the leaves. Then the panel was adhered to a larger aqua folded card. The smaller rectangles on the card front are from the new Pop 'n Swap die set - I love the size of them and I'm getting lots of use out of them! I added some handwriting and a die cut heart, and the front of my card was done.

Inside, I used the Oval Frames Pop Up - so fun.

The border across the top was made with the flap from the new Purse Pop Up. The greeting was created with the 'love' from the Pop 'n Swap combined with 'From The Garden' from the Garden Charms.

I LOVE the Gnome/Santa character - it's going to be lots of fun to customize. Glittery fairies are on the centre panels, which have an acetate backing so the fairy's 'float'.

Here is another view of the Oval Frame Pop Up and you can see the title scenes on the back to ovals created with the new Backyard Charms. The Oval Frame Pop Up allows you to do either a 'drop down' or a 'pop-up' and I intended on doing a pop up, but decorated the ovals before adhering the mechanism inside the card, and realized my mistake. Then, because of the height of the Gnome hats, I had to move it down so they would remain hidden when the card was closed. That is why I decorated the top with the large 'scalloped' border.

One more view for you ...

Fall Critter Oval Frames Pop Up

Hello my crafty friends

I have a fall themed card to share today. Not because I feel like welcoming the end of summer but these critter stickers have been sitting on the top of my printer for FAR TOO LONG and it was time to use them and toss the12 x 12"  backing sheet.

I haven't used the Oval Frames Pop Up in awhile so I watched Karen Burniston's assembly video again to refresh my memory. Teammate Sandy Diller had made a card that KB showed on the video and I decided to use Sandy's technique of having the ovals pop up at the top edge of the card.

I also included a short YouTube video showing what the card looks like in action, which is below the photos.

First, here is the front of my card:

I added black gel pen to the eyes and noses of the critters for some shine, and I added a little acorn sticker between his paws. I pulled out some other fall embellishments and added the leaves which have clear embossed veining.

Here is a look at the inside:

... a view from above ...

I was able to use all the remaining stickers other than one that said 'Autumn Memories' so that made me happy. I did adhere the stickers down with glue, since they're older I wasn't convinced that the adhesive would still hold permanently.

Below is the YouTube video!

Floral Sunburst Panel Card Duo

Hello my crafty friends

I love the Your Next Stamp Sunburst Panel die, so used it here with some pretty floral patterned paper to make my card share today. I usually take advantage of the fall away pieces to make a second card so that is what I did here too.  Since I used flowers and butterflies, these cards work for the Fun Friday Challenge #113 at Your Next Stamp - How Does Your Garden Grow.

First up is the Mother's Day card. I love butterflies, and since I get so frustrated with my old Spellbinders die set I was thrilled to add this Lawn Fawn Layered Butterfly die set to my collection last month. I am a little fussy with my butterflies - I like certain shapes and not others. At any rate, you will be seeing this one a lot from me since I adore the shape, layers and sizes.

I die cut the top layer from turquoise, and the solid layer from gold card stock and a scrap of the floral patterned paper. Then I inlaid a few of the floral pieces onto the gold one for a different look. I saved the floral overlay butterfly to use inside.

Inside, I used just the centre portion of Karen Burniston's Oval Frames Pop-Up to add a pop-up mechanism at the top centre of my card. Then I layered another gold solid butterfly and the floral overlay piece on top. If I were to make this again, I would add the butterfly a little higher up on the mechanism arms so it opened wider when the card opens. But it's still pretty and I had fun playing with the Oval Frames Pop-Up to see if it would work as I wanted it to.

I used the same layout for my second card, cutting the Sunburst Panel Die from white card stock and inlaying the stitched floral pieces from the first card into the corresponding openings on the white panel.

I used folded strips of paper to make my own 'wobble' and the butterfly bobs and wobbles on the card front which is always fun. I spent some time searching for a way to make my own 'Action Wobbles' as I would like to use them more on my Nursing Home Donation Cards, but that would really add to the cost of my donations. Finally, I found this video on YouTube by Maymay and it was exactly what I was looking for. If you are interested in how I made my paper spring, you can check out her video HERE.

On the inside, I die cut a butterfly from the white stitched rectangle and again from a scrap of the floral paper. Then I inlaid the floral butterfly into the white panel. There is lots of room to write my note on the rest of the panel.

Here are both cards together:

Designer Challenge Pop-Up Congratulations Card

Hello my crafty friends

Welcome to Karen Burnston's April 2019 Designer Challenge, where the theme is 'CONGRATS'. This can be a graduation or general congrats -your choice!

Our Son-in-Law recently won a prestigious award at the University of Calgary, and I wanted to make a special card for him. I chose the Oval Frames Pop-Up and Word Set 8 Celebrate for my card today. Here is the front:

The red dot on the banner is actually the fall-away piece from the owl's glasses (inside the card). :-)

Inside I used the Oval Frames Pop-Up and chose not to add the additional frames over the centre ovals. I die cut the CONGRATS! using the Alphabet die set and popped them up on the ovals. Since it was a 'school' themed award I added the glasses from Tiny Accessories One as a rather stereotypical theme.

You get so much dimension with the Oval Frames Pop-Up but the whole card folds completely flat for mailing.

Seriously, how CUTE is this owl from the Feathered Animals. OMGosh, I just love him. Since there is no fold in the outer two ovals, I was able to adhere this smaller oval in between the two right ovals hanging down enough to fit the owl on yet still fold easily. The scroll/award from the Tiny Accessories Two was perfect for this card.

Initially I had a different card in mind for him but this challenge changed my mind so this is the card we gave to him to celebrate his achievement.

I hope you will check out what the rest of the Design Team came up with for the challenge - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project and group post on her blog tomorrow (Wednesday) on HER BLOG.

Flowers & Butterflies Pop-Up Card

Hello my crafty friends

I decided to use this stunning glittered patterned paper for my card, and let it take centre stage with the card front. A layered Happy Spring and a punched butterfly is all it needed. As always, it's hard to see all the glitter in the photographs.

Inside I used the Oval Frame Pop-Up and more patterned paper from the sheet. Instead of added the Oval Frames though, I just added my pretty butterflies to the main ovals.

I have had these butterfly dies for many years, and every time I use them I swear never again. The paper or card stock sticks inside the dies and take a very gentle hand and many minutes to pry the delicate cuts out of the die without tearing. I have tried using wax paper in between and other tricks as well, but nothing seems to work. So these are put away again until I forget what a pain they are to use and I'll repeat the whole scenario. The finished cuts are sure pretty though!

I added die cut butterflies from the Circle Charm Pop-Up and smaller punched butterflies too.

The Happy Easter comes with the new Easter Charms - I like that Karen Burniston is adding these larger words to her charm sets.

For those that might be interested in my thought process, here is my 'prototype' to see if the Oval Frame Pop-Up would work the way I wanted to for this card. It's not pretty as I just grabbed scraps of card stock that were sitting on my table. This is not something I was going to keep. The card base wasn't a full size A2, but I didn't need it to be to test out the mechanism with the butterflies.

Once I could see it would work great, this piece went into recycling and I proceeded to cut into some nice card stock and patterned paper for my card.

1079 Oval Frames Pop-Up - Karen Burniston
Pink and green card stocks
Patterned paper - K & Company

Pop-Up Butterfly Birthday Card

Hello my crafty friends

Today is Fun Fold Friday here on my blog.  I used some pretty patterned paper and butterfly dies from my stash to make a pop-up birthday card for a friends Mom.

I added some card stock sequins from the new Rockin Rectangle die set by Karen Burniston and added glitter here and there as well.

Inside I used the new Oval Frame Pop-Up and once again, I used it differently than it was intended. I chopped off the outer ovals and adhered my layered butterflies to the centre portion.

Love these sweet stitched banners from the Circle Tag Book Pop-Up and I added small punched butterflies with some more glitter.

The fancy label is from the Katherine Label Pop-Up and I added the scalloped frame and solid oval decorator dies from the Oval Frames Pop-Up.

Here is a side view so you can see the Pop-Up a little better.

Oval Frames Valentine Card

Hello my crafty friends

It's Fun Fold Friday here on my blog, and I'm sharing another Sneak Peek of Karen Burniston's new release which should be shipping SOON!.

For the card front, I added several different borders using the Border Blends Argyle die set, the XOXO is from the Word Set 9 Love, and of course the sweet owl from the new Feathered Animals.

Inside I used the new Oval Frames Pop-Up to animate a pair of heart-holding-owls. The Oval Frame piece can either Pop-Up when the card is opened, as I did here - or Drop Down depending on how you adhere it inside. So even more versatility in a die set, which I love.

With all the small dies, I was able to use up a whole bunch of card stock scraps!!

Note - be sure of the orientation before decorating the ovals. I had intended on making this one a 'drop down' version, but my decorated ovals were upside down when I went to adhere them. Either way is fine, it still works perfectly and it all depends on how you want to display the card. I just wanted to give you the heads up about paying attention to the orientation.

Supplies:
1079 Oval Frames Pop-Up - Karen Burniston
1075 Feathered Animals - Karen Burniston
1076 Tiny Accessories 2 - Karen Burniston
1083 Word Set 9 Love - Karen Burniston
1090 Border Blends Argyle - Karen Burniston
Pink, white, aqua, green, black, grey, red and kraft card stocks
Patterned paper and journal cards - Doodlebug
Sakura pink and white gel pens

Oval Frame Pop-Up Anniversary Card

Hello my crafty friends

Today's share is an Anniversary card for our middle daughter and hubby. I used some of Karen Burniston's January 2019 release including the Oval Frame Pop-Up die set. I just LOVE the little heart tree that is included!

The Rockin' Rectangle Pop-Up comes with a die that cuts four sequins, so I cut them from white card stock here and gave them some shimmer with a Wink of Stella pen. It is so easy to adhere card stock sequins - just regular adhesive works and they don't pop off in the mail!

Here is the inside ... the Oval Frame Pop-Up has a ton of dimension to it. It's also really REALLY hard to photograph.

I used the largest heart from the new Heart Pivot Panels to die cut a heart shaped window out of each of the end ovals, then backed them with a smaller oval of red card stock with foam tape. I like the shadow box look this gave those panels.

The fall away hearts have a nice 'press dot' edge, so I added them below the words on the lower centre ovals.

The tiny heart is the fall away heart is actually the centre of the heart glasses from the new Tiny Accessories Two. It makes such a sweet accent. And I adore the scalloped edge with 'press dots' on this rectangle from the Rockin' Rectangle so used it again here fo the greeting.

Even with all this dimension, the card folds completely flat for mailing! The new release is available on the WEBSITE for pre-order now.
