Wedding Box Card

Hello my crafty friends

A friend's daughter is getting married this month, and I offered to make them a wedding card to give the happy couple. I had trouble figuring out what I wanted to do - I knew it would be an interactive card, but which one? Finally I decided on a box card, since the card will likely be displayed for a little while.

I find it hard making a card for a big occasion when I don't know the people but my friend suggested maybe shades of purple with some silver. That was my jumping off point. While this is not a Karen Burniston Pop Up, I  ended up using FIVE KB dies on it. I guess that shows how truly versatile her dies can be!

The Happily Ever After die is SO perfect for a wedding card. It cuts as a single piece which makes it nice and easy to adhere.  I cut the Lawn Fawn Box card base from a heavy pearlized white card stock, which doesn't show up in the photos but is really pretty in real life.

Both the little scalloped border on the inside supports and the bride and groom dies are from the Cake Pop Up. Which was another die set I had considered for the occasion. The 'lacy' heart is one of my favourites - an older die from Stampin' Up. I still remember how happy I was when I was able to purchase that set.

I used the stitched label from the Gift Card Label set as a place for my friends to sign their names. The press dot hearts are from the Circle Charm Pop Up.

Of course it folds completely flat for mailing. While the box card on it's own fits easily into an A2 envelope, I added the large heart at the back which makes it far too tall for that. I added some coordinating paper to line the inside & flap of a 6" square envelope instead. To me, large square envelopes just seem perfect for a wedding.

C4CC423 Cake Pop-Up

Good morning friends

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. I've been the hostess this month and I'd like to thank Kristine Reynolds for being our Guest Designer.  She has also agreed to help us out next month too! You can find her blog HERE.  

My challenge this week: This is my Birthday Month and I like cake. For your project this week, add a cake, cupcake or other yummy. It doesn’t have to be a birthday card - just show us something delicious.

I pulled out an older paper pack for my card today. I love the new bold, Happy Birthday die from Karen Burniston, and knew I wanted to use it on the front. It looks like it blends in with the background in the photo below but in real life it does not. Chalk it up to my iffy photography skills.

I also love the new stitched scalloped border die by Prickley Pear stamps. It has a stencil feature for the words HAPPY BIRTHDAY and CONGRATS but for this one I used a fine point marker and penned the word 'celebrate'.

It's amazing how this 3-d, dimensional cake folds completely flat for mailing!

I adhered a couple of printed embellishments to the cake top, and one of the candles that come with the Cake Pop-Up. While it's hard to see int he photo, I added the scalloped cake trim around the base of the cake as a cake plate. That tip came from Karen Burniston's assembly video!

A few more printed embellishments and pretty stitched and scalloped borders inside.

Even though the patterned paper was a lighter weight than I probably should have used for the cake, I'm really happy with how well it turned out. The Cake Pop-Up is such an amazing die set.

Pink Birthday Cake Pop-Up

Good morning friends

One of Karen Burniston's new Pop-Ups is the CAKE POP-UP. I took some time this week to make one and wow, what a clever die set. When you assemble the cake then adhere it inside your card, I bet you say WOW. When I finished this one, I showed it to our son. He opened it once and said "No Way'. Then he opened it again, looked at me and said 'this blows my mind'.  He passed it to my husband, who opened it and thoroughly examined it, handed it back and said COOL! I figure if the guys in the family are amazed and impressed, it's a pretty great die set.

I was happy to find these stamps in my stash, which work perfectly with the Cake Pop-Up. I stamped the greeting with black, then water coloured it with my new Marvy Le Plume II markers. I saw these markers at Creativation (CHA) this year, and was able to sit and try them out. I love them, so have added a few to my collection.

Hmmm - is that a sequin? Yes. I have tried for years, to stay off the sequin train. However, I'm interested in doing more shaker cards, so ordered a few packages of sequins for that. Now that they are in the house, I'm seeing them creep onto my cards here and there.

This is the card opened! Once again, I didn't make a prototype, just went right into making a full card. I had this patterned paper out from a different project and I wanted to make a cake with three of the patterned papers in the stack.

Isn't this something? It is a full 3-d birthday cake, but it folds completely flat for mailing. This card will easily fit into an envelope and mail for a single stamp.

I used the included cake trim as a border at the top and bottom and the Happy Birthday die again. I mentioned you would be seeing a lot of that die.

Tips and Tricks:
I used the dark patterned paper as an offset behind the Happy Birthday and the scalloped frosting.

Instead of adding the scalloped frosting to the cake, I added glitter glue. Between the frosting and the Cake Trim dies, there are lots of ways to decorate your cake!
