Circle Gatefold Shaker

Welcome to Fun Fold Friday here on my blog. Today I'm sharing the 12th and final edition of my Monthly Series "New Fun Folds" and I used a new die set by Studio Light for this one. It's called Circle Shutter Card Essentials and I bought it in the fall from Ecstasy Crafts when I was ordering some Glitter Dots. I must have been in a shopping mood that day, as I ended up ordering a couple of card die sets! This was my first play with using one and I knew I wanted to use more of that pretty wintery scene patterned paper for my card.

I had also ordered the coordinating circle shaker blisters so decided to break those out too. This card took a little bit more thought and preparation than I am used to - I'm a craft-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type of card maker. It was worth it though and I knew just who I was making the card for.

This type of card - where you see the inside even when the card is closed - is truly outside of my comfort zone but now that I have one under my belt I will have fun playing with this die set in the New Year.

I added a panel to the back side which is where we wrote our personal greeting.

... one more look ...

Having been asked how many cards I make I thought it would be fun to keep track this year. Many of my posts include more than a single card or project and below is my tally.

Comfort & Joy Gatefold card

It's Fun Fold Friday on my blog and today I'm sharing the 12th and final card in my monthly series "Throwback Fun Fold Dies".  I pulled out this "Hello Friend Gatefold" die set by Sizzix to use and since It's December I made a Christmas card. The die set has these lovely rounded top corners, the layering dies and also a couple of different floral dies for the side panels and also 'Flip & Fold' flower dies. I didn't use the florals on this card, but do plan on using this set again in the New Year.

The card is decorated with snowflake stickers, a large die cut snowflake and a stamped sentiment. For the card front I masked off the 'JOY' part of the stamped sentiment because ...

... I added a large JOY die inside to complete the sentiment! I also added this Snowman Joy die (Penny Black) because it just makes me smile. I also used more of the Frosted Forests patterned paper, which I am really enjoying.

I added a panel to the back with a stamped sentiment and this is were we will sign the card.

Four Gatefold Thanksgiving Cards

I have been making an effort to go through my 'In Progress' bin ... and pulled out an envelope that had the makings of these four cards inside. The green cardstock Gatefold bases were there, the orange patterned paper cut to fit the front and inside panels, the stamped/embossed/fussy cut and coloured leaf images were in there. All had been sitting in the envelope for years. So ... I had a look and decided I would assemble and finish the cards and get them out of the bin!

The leaves have a shimmer to them, I likely painted them with Twinkling H2O's way back when. The (wood mounted) stamp was from Magenta. I die cut four stitched ovals to mount the leaves to and stamped a sentiment strip for the card fronts. A gold foiled bee sticker was added to the upper right corner and I also added a few gold Glitter Dots for more sparkle.

Inside, I cut a smaller white panel and wrapped the edges with Washi Tape & narrow gold tape  then stamped a sentiment. I also added another gold bee sticker ... just because. 😊. The envelopes also got stickers and some washi tape and I have four more cards for Thanksgiving! (I send Thanksgiving cards to our American friends & family and their Thanksgiving is late November).

Bee Thankful Curvy Gatefold Card

When I posted a Curvy Gatefold card with a coneflower on the belly band, one of my followers suggested I do one with a Bee. Well - I love bee images, and decided to pull out this beautiful 6x6" sunflower paper pad and Honey Bee's Babee stamp/dies and this is what I came up with.

The wings on the bee have a coating of Nuvo Glaze so they are raised and shiny, and I added some gold gems for sparkle.

When you slide off the belly band, this is the inside. I plan on using this one for a Thanksgiving card as the Canadian Thanksgiving is in October. I also send Thanksgiving cards to our American friends and family in November so I like to have a bunch of them made.  I had made a note last year that I needed to restock Thanksgiving cards for 2023 so I'm working on that now.

Gated Fun Fold Card

While I made three of this style of card for our Grandson's to celebrate school being out for the summer, for some reason I only took a photo of this one. I had a half sheet of this 12 x 12" foiled patterned paper so how could I not make it into a Gated Fun Fold?

I have a video tutorial from when I first started making these cards and you can find that HERE

The inside panel is popped up on a folded accordion piece so it wobbles and bobs around, which is kind of fun. The pencil is from a stamp set & I coloured it to match the card. The other two cards used school themed paper with a stamped backpack on the center front piece.

Butterfly Curvy Gatefold Card

I spent some time in February trying to USE UP a big stack of 6 x 6" patterned paper that had been part of a Stampin' Up paper share several years ago. I'm happy to say that this card used the final sheet! A lot of the cards I made with those papers won't be shared on my blog, simply because there are so many of them. I have shared a few and have a few more to come but I mostly made birthday cards to donate to my Mom's old nursing home.

Today's card uses the Curvy Gatefold die set by Creative Craft and I added Lawn Fawn butterflies.

Here is a peek at the inside, with a stamped sentiment and another butterfly. I also used a small leftover paper strip. Since I am low on Thank You cards, this one will go into my stash.

I added Wink of Stella at the bottom edge of the solid letters, but it was hard to photograph. It adds such a lovely shine as it catches the light.

Gated Fun Fold Teacher Card

When I pulled out a package of school themed patterned paper, this half sheet was in the package and I knew I would make (another) Gated Fun Fold with it. I have so much fun with this fold - if you missed the video tutorial, you can find that HERE.

On the inside panel I stamped two rulers and a sentiment, then added Karen Burniston's Bookworm holding an apple. That little worm is just SO darned cute!

Curvy Gatefold Birthday Card

This Curvy Gatefold die set was one that I got for my Birthday, and I had to play with it right away. However, I'm just now sharing the card! I made it for our middle daughter's birthday so couldn't post it on social media until we had given it to her.  For this one, I added a pretty belly band that slides off to open and reveal the sentiment inside.

The belly band was decorated with a flower and leafy sprigs and I cut some of the layers from pink mirrored card stock.

I love a die set that comes with layering dies - especially for tricky curves like this one. I only used one layering die on the front, but used both of them inside. The bottom layer was cut from pink mirrored cardstock so there is lots of shimmer and shine.

Masculine Birthday Gated Fun Fold Card Duo

What can I say? I see 12 x 12" patterned paper with a new eye now, and I'm HOOKED on these Gated Fun Fold cards. If you missed my video tutorial, I have it linked near the end of my post***.

This scenic patterned paper was free when Stampin' Up had their Sale A Bration and I was in love with it when it arrived. And yep - I immediately created these two cards from a single sheet of the paper. I love having extra masculine birthday cards in my stash.

Karen Burniston's Crosshatch Squares were perfect for adding the front sentiment, and I used stamps from both Catherine Pooler (words) and Stampin' Up (wolf).

For some reason I felt that these ones needed a little reinforcing on the outer side flaps - if you follow me you know I am not a fan of 'wussy' cards. So I added strips of cardstock on the back side of each of the side panels and was much happier with them. The strips measured ~ 1.75 x 5.75" and I also rounded the coordinating outer corner before adhering the cardstock to the back side flaps.

Not wanting to hide too much of the mountain scene inside, I added a vellum panel behind each of the stamped panels. I stamped the wolf onto the envelope, then - without re-inking - at the bottom of the sentiment panel. That gave me a lighter impression that can be written over, also known as 2nd generation stamping.

***Earlier this year I shared a tutorial for creating these Easy Gated Fun Fold Cards and said that I was having SO much fun with the idea and had made several more of them since filming the video. Here are two more of them and I still have another couple to share in the coming weeks.  You can find my YouTube tutorial HERE.

Additional Supplies:
Card size - 4 x 6"
Patterned paper - Enjoy the Journey - Stampin' Up
Corner rounder - Creative Memories

Easy Gated Fun Fold Cards for Easter

I pulled out this 12 x 12" paper package by Authentique that has been in my stash for years. I think I pull it out every year, flip through it then sigh and wonder why I bought it. This year though - I decided I really liked some of the patterns and created three Gated Fun Fold cards to send out at Easter.

As with a lot of paper pads, there are two sheets of each design so there are two sheets with these victorian cut-aparts. I have used several of them over the years but there are lots remaining. I cut down three more and matted them with a mirrored cardstock for lots of shine. I also added Pops of Color (like a glittery glossy accent) onto each of the cut aparts but decided to leave the sentiment off the front. It's obvious they are Easter cards, ha ha.

Last month I shared a tutorial for creating these Easy Gated Fun Fold Cards and said that I was having SO much fun with the idea and had made several more of them since filming the video. They are so quick and easy and you can get two of them from a single 12 x 12" sheet. This patterned paper was especially sturdy, which was perfect. You can find my YouTube tutorial HERE.

I also added some self adhesive gems that were leftover from a Stampin' Up card kit.

Inside I added a scalloped panel cut from the same mirrored cardstock and a stamped sentiment onto a stitched white panel. That sentiment is from Impression Obsession and if it's still available I will link it for you. I've had it for a long time though, so it won't surprise me if it's been retired.

NOTE:  Since the majority of the mirrored scalloped panel would be hidden by the white one, I actually cut the stitched rectangles for the card fronts from the centre of those inside panels. You can't tell there is a big rectangular hole in the centre of the mirrored card stock once you adhere the white one on top!

Forest Scene Birthday Card

Its Masculine Card Monday here on my blog and today I'm sharing a funny card I made for our Son In Law's birthday. Last month I shared a tutorial for creating these Easy Gated Fun Fold Cards and said that I was having SO much fun with the idea and had made several more of them since filming the video. This is one of them and I have even more coming up. They are so quick and easy and you can get two of them from a single 12 x 12" sheet. You can find my YouTube tutorial HERE, and below is a quick one showing how the card opens.

I started with some scenic patterned paper and a Funny Bones sentiment.

I love that this paper is double sided! I pulled out some other stamps from my stash to finish off the card but felt it still needed something. So ... the (retired) pine tree die from Elizabeth Craft Designs was the finishing touch.

I have been asked how many cards I make but I didn't have a clear number. Since many of my posts include more than a single card or project, I thought it would be fun to keep track this year.

Card Tally for 2023
January - 53 cards
February - 56 cards
March so far - 14 Cards

Additional supplies:
5 Part Pine - Elizabeth Craft Designs (retired)
Green cardstock
White cardstock
Stitched banner - MFT (retired)

Disney Themed Gated Fun Fold Card Duo

Last month I shared a tutorial for creating these Easy Gated Fun Fold Cards and said that I was having SO much fun with the idea and had made several more of them since filming the video. Here are two of them and I still have more to share in the coming weeks.  You can find my YouTube tutorial HERE.

These two cards are for our nephews twin girls who celebrated their first birthday by going to Disneyland. I had the papers in my stash from when we went to Disney World many years ago and this sheet was perfect for the cards.

I added a die cut letter to each of the cards for the initial of their first name, and used one of Karen Burniston's Banner Crosshatch on the card fronts.

Below is whaat the cards look like on display and you can really see how fun that patterned paper is!

Yes, once again I added one of Sam Calcott's cardstock springs. I love the lift they give inside a card!

The second card was pretty much the same on the card front ...

... but I added a different birthday verse inside. Just like twins - the same but different. 😊

If you would like to see Sam Calcott's video on these paper springs, click HERE.

I have been asked how many cards I make but I didn't have a clear number. Since many of my posts include more than a single card or project, I thought it would be fun to keep track this year.

Card Tally for 2023
January - 53 cards
February - 56 cards
March so far - 2 Cards

Additional Supplies:
Patterned paper - Disney Specialty Paper (stash, many years old)
Corner Rounder punch - Creative Memories
White cardstock
Alpha dies - Sizzix Serif Essentials BigZ
Verses inside -  Lots of BD2Stamp, the Stamps of Life
