Pop Up Snowman Slider Box

Hello my crafty friends! Today I'm sharing my Snowman Slider Box - I had SO much fun making it. And so much fun playing with it afterwards too. 😂  I have a walkthrough of this project, with all the details on YouTube

I added some die cut snowflakes with gems, and two decorated Surprise Cubes and when you slide open the drawer everything springs out. So much fun! The Snowman was adhered to a Bam Box - all the dies are by Karen Burniston and linked below.

As I said in the video, the card was inspired by the patterned paper and the cute Snowman die. I die cut a window into the box sleeve and backed it with acetate. I had been having trouble finding my Snowman die, and wanted to finish the project. So I ended up adding the circular embellishment to the center of the acetate and then, just before I started filming the video I got the Snowman Die! I had wanted him peeking out the window so I will do that another time.

Additional Supplies:
White cardstock
Black cardstock
Black marker
Seam Binding

Karen Burniston January 2019 Designer Challenge

Happy New Year!

We are starting off the New Year with a BANG ... specifically, Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge. The first one of 2019 and the theme is "NEW: try something new to you. Is it a technique? A color scheme? A style (cute? grungy?) Here's your chance to usher in the new year with something new."

With a theme of new, and the first day of a brand new year, a Happy New Years card was the first thing I thought of doing. But I didn't have a need for one, so rather than make a card just to make a card, I decided to try a NEW-TO-ME technique using the Snowman Twist Circle. This was based on Karen Burniston's amazing card and accompanying video for her November 2019 Designer Challenge. I will link the video at the end of the post.

I kept the front fairly simple, using a NEW sheet of patterned paper that I couldn't resist purchasing. I'm still amazed I only picked up the one 12 x 12" sheet and not more because I love nature images like this. I added the large Happy Birthday and a single brown tree as a lead in ...

Here is the card as it is opening, and you can see there are a bunch more trees inside.

Fully open, the card displays a little 'forest' with a deer silhouette in the background.

I used the Crosshatch Rectangles as a framed area for my sentiment. With all the roundness in the background paper I wanted to break that up with some straight edges.

The deer is from the Outdoor Scene die set, which is another set that stays out on my stamping table all the time because I reach for it so often.

Finally, for those that like to pin card fronts and insides together ... here you go!

I hope you will check out what the rest of the Design Team came up for this Designer Challenge - their blogs are all linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project and a group post tomorrow (Wednesday) on her BLOG.

Floral Spray Card Duo

Good morning friends

I was excited to receive my recent order from Pink and Main. I loved this floral spray stamp from the May release SO much I just had to place an order. And when it came I had to play with it right away. I have lots of ideas for it, and I think I will stamp and emboss several panels so I can have them on hand for quick card fronts. You can add so many different greetings & images in that centre space!

I pulled out my Zig Clean Colour Markers to add the colour with a water brush. I love how vibrant it turned out! The Pink and Main Smile die was one I picked up this Spring. There is a coordinating stamp set as well but I didn't use it on this card.

Below you can see the card as it is opening, where the words inside are sideways.

I haven't used the Snowman Twist Circle Pop-Up for awhile, so that is what I used for the card inside.  I stamped, embossed and coloured a second image then cut it in two and layered one half on each side of the card. The centre circle twists and pop's up as the card is opened.

I have a small stack of pretty backgrounds done with ColorBursts and Magical Shakers, and when I saw how well the colours of this one matched the card, I cut the beaded ring from that.

I immediately made a second card and since the colours are so similar I decided to post both cards together ... below is the second card using the stamp set.

White it shows dark in the photo, the gold scalloped panel and words are a much lighter gold - as is the embossing powder. Funny story - this gold embossing powder is about 20 years old. I had a devil of a time getting it to melt smoothly and it wanted to stick everywhere even though I used an anti static tool. So I'm thinking it's time to get some new gold embossing powder!

While the stamp set comes with a Thinking of You stamp, I decided I liked the dimensional look of a die cut greeting instead. Below is a peek at the inside. My Mom was recently hospitalized so this is the card I brought to her. There was lots of room inside to write our message.

Finally, here are the two cards together.

C4C418 Twist Circle Pop-Up Card!

Good morning friends

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Our hostess is Frances Byrne, and our Guest Designer is  Elena Anderson .  Since it's the third Saturday of the month, Frances has a sketch for us this week.

Once again this year I will be using older supplies from my stash along with newer ones. I really enjoyed pulling out some older images and dies last year and giving them some well deserved love. My card front uses a fairly new sentiment stamp, paired with an older Paper Smooches deer. I've had the patterned paper for a couple of years - I love it SO much, I tend to hoard it. Sheesh.

I used Karen Burniston's Snowman Twist Circle Pop-Up for the inside - see how the circle is on it's side as the card is opened?

When it's fully open, the circle twists and pop's up. While the set comes with a snowman, you can see that it makes a great generic Pop-Up that you can use for many different occasions.

I used a bunch more stamps from the same Paper Smooches stamp set on the inside to make a fun camping scene. My husband and I purchased an acreage last summer - and even though we hadn't been camping in about 10 years we hauled our old travel trailer out and camped on the land. It's WAY too cold and snowy to be camping now, but I do look forward to going out there for some winter fire pit fun!

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd  love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C418.

Snowman Greetings Twist Circle Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends.

It's time for the Paper Pro's challenge, and this year Frances issues the challenge "Let's Twist Again". Here is my card:

I am a patterned paper collector. It's crazy! Well, crazy to others - for me it's completely normal, ha ha. I found this piece of patterned paper in my stash. I've had it for years. I'm guessing it just got stuck behind other packages and it just didn't get re-discovered until this year. Once I found it though, I was determined to not only USE it, but use it UP on a card this year.

I used Karen Burniston's snowman on the front - he is holding a sparkly snowflake. I like that you can move his arms around to suit you. The 'Greetings' was die cut from white card stock.

See how the inside snowman is on his side as the card is opened?

Inside I used the Snowman Twist Circle Pop-Up. The centre circle twists and pops-up as the card is opened. The final piece of patterned paper was used in the centre of the card. (Happy dance).

I also added a die cut snowflake border on the sides, layered white over white. I like the subtle shadows that gives the card when it is opened.

The Paper Pro's challenge is a casual one, with a varying number or participants each month. This month we have:

Karen Aicken - that's ME!

Note, I will be back later today with another post - my second card for the 2017 Winter Coffee Lover's Blog Hop!

Snowglobe Twist Circle Card

Good morning friends

I have made it my mission to use things up for my holiday cards this year. I have all kinds of bits and pieces of patterned paper sitting in a drawer, that I used on Christmas cards other years and didn't finish up the sheet. Time to use it up and make room.

This card was made with the intention of using up this berry print paper, and I did! I used Karen Burniston's Gift Card Label on the front, with her Word Set 3 - Holidays on the stitched oval. Notice how the oval slips under the gift card slits that cut with the label? The Gift Card Label die set is quite versatile!

I used the Snowman Twist Circle Pop-Up (without the snowman) and as the card is opened, the decoration twists and pops up.

Here is the card fully open. I used the flourishes from the Gift Card Label to anchor the stamped circle where we will sign our name. The graphic on the circle was so cute, I had to use it. On the lettered circle, I added the snowman hat and scarf from the Winter Animals.

The stitched clouds from the Nature Edges is great for clouds, but it also makes a great border and I've used it here on each side of the card.

One more holiday card done for the stash!

Red, blue, white and black card stocks
Patterned paper - Echo Park
Graphic - Lettering Delignts
Stitched oval dies - MFT Stamps
Stitched circle dies - MFT Stamps
'snowflake' stamp - Papertrey Ink

Karen Burniston's September 2017 Design Team Challenge

Good morning friends

Today is Karen Burniston's first Design Team Challenge with her new company in partnership with Tanya Kostynuk, KB Riley LLC. The challenge is: Theme: "SIGNATURE STYLE" - Introduce yourself with a card using your signature style, or techniques, or colors. Make a card of any theme.

I was stumped for the longest time. I don't know that I even have a signature style. I just make things I like. Sometimes the styles that appeal to me one month do not the next although my go-to colours are teal/blue & green. For this challenge I decided to just make something I like then go over the details with you.

I went with a Halloween theme, since Karen Burniston's newest release has such cool Halloween dies.

First - I like to make interactive cards, so that would definitely be part of my style.

Second  - I like to make cards that are a different size than the traditional A2. I've been making cards for a VERY long time and many of those years were spent making A2 sized cards. One of the things I like most about Karen Burniston's interactive dies is that I get to choose the size of card. This card is 5 x 6" and fits nicely in a 5 x 7" envelope.

Third -  I love patterned paper. Patterned paper with a bit of shimmer or shine is even better. Often my cards start with the patterned paper and proceed from there. The black pattern on this paper is embossed and shiny and feels really nice when you hold it.

Fourth - Shimmer & Shine. I love a bit of bling on my cards, whether it comes from the gloss of Nuvo Crystal Drops (my latest obsession), foil papers, glittered dot stickers, metallic gel pens etc - I love it. The glittered gold dots on this card were leftover from 2016 holiday tags. They were just too pretty to toss, which brings me to

Fifth - I have an on-going Odds & Sods pile that I like to root through to add details to my cards. It's a fun way to add unexpected bits to your card and makes them truly one of a kind.

Sixth - I LOVE using stickers and pre-made embellishments  and I used a number of different ones on this card. The skeleton stickers are many years old. I have a box full of stickers that I've collected over the years.

Seventh - I like easy. I don't want to fuss with math, measuring and templates. Karen Burniston's dies make it so easy to create amazing interactive cards and projects as all the work - including scoring - is done by the dies. This card uses the Snowman Twist Circle Pop-Up (minus the snowman) - with a lovely black & metallic 3-d pumpkin sticker front and centre. It's an easy Pop-Up card to make, but gets a real WOW when people open them. I have yet to see someone not open and close these Twist Circle cards several times when they receive it. Karen has how-to videos right on her website, as well as an informative YouTube channel for help if you need it.

I sprinkled some gold foil leaves across the top of the black inner layer - the leaves come with the Tree Pop-Up die set and cut 6 with a single pass through your die cutting machine.

Eighth - Mix and match. Not only do I like getting double duty from my dies, I also like to mix and match dies from different sets. Here I combined labels from the Gift Card Label and the Katherine Label Pop-Up.

Ninth - I rarely make a card just for the sake of a challenge. I like to make a card for someone specific, or to donate to Seniors Secret Service. I like to think I make cards that are easy for someone to duplicate with their own colour choices and embellishments.  Sometimes it's fun to pull out all the stops but generally my cards are simple to execute and can be completed in a single sitting.

I think the only thing this card is missing to represent my own style, is some handwriting. I like to add handwriting or basic hand lettering to my cards, but this one just didn't seem to need it.

Finally, I love to share ideas.  I have always enjoyed teaching classes and demoing at various stamp stores. One day I will have this RA fully under control and I will be able to get back to teaching but until then I can share almost daily inspiration here on my blog. I get so excited when I figure out a different way to use a die, and can't wait to share it with you all.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Design Team's Signature Styles - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her blog post tomorrow (Wednesday September 6th).

C4C399 Sketch Twist Circle Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends

It's Saturday so that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog. Our August 2017 Hostess is Raquel Mason and Fran Sabad is our Guest Designer. You can find Fran's Blog HERE

Raquel has a sketch for us today ...

... and here is my card using the sketch.

These lovely water coloured foxes were die cut from a piece of patterned paper, and I added shadows with copic markers and sky with Distress Oxide inks spritzed with water.

Inside I used Karen Burniston's Snowman Twist Circle Pop-Up! This is a fun Pop-Up that works up quickly and people seem to like them, opening and closing them several times.

The larger circle Pop-Up embellishment was done the same way, with a larger image than the ones on the front.

I also used Karen Burniston's Nature Edges and the Katherine Label.

This card is for my Mom to give our Son's girlfriend for her birthday this month.

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd  love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C-399
