Butterfly Pop Up Birthday Card Duo

This pair of pop-up birthday cards started with the pretty scenic card bases from the March 2024 Paper Pumpkin kit. Since they are patterned on both the front and back, I cut one card base down and mounted them to the front of two white top folding card bases.

Each panel got a blast from my shimmer spray and then I mounted a single purple butterfly to each one with a single gem in the center.

Inside, I used dies by Karen Burniston to create the pop-up. Her Lorna Label Pop Up has long been a favourite of mine, and the add-ons just make it even more versatile. For these two I used the Happy Birthday Add-Ons and die cut the Happy Birthday layer from rainbow holographic card stock for some shimmer and shine.

The sentiment was stamped on one of the stitched Lorna Label dies and added inside each card. I could have just stamped the sentiment but I like the little extra detail it gave the card by adding it to a stitched die cut label. I also added a sentiment to a fishtail banner on the pop-up portion.

It's Masculine Card Monday here on my blog and today I'm sharing the birthday card I made for my brother, and I made it a pop-up using dies by Karen Burniston.  I love the add-on sets she has come up with for the Lorna Label Pop Up, and this Happy Birthday Add-On is getting a lot of use!

I haven't purchased any new crafting supplies for a year now, and am focusing on using up some of my huge stash. These stickers were in there, as well as the patterned paper - both several years old. In doing this, I have come across some stickers that have either completely lost their adhesive backing or are permanently adhered to their backing. They crack and tear when trying to remove them and ended up in the trash. Such a waste - if only I'd just used them when I bought them instead of 'hoarding' them or 'saving them for a special project'.

The cactus stickers were adhered to white card stock then fussy cut, which gives them stability and allows me to pop them up with foam tape. I also love how the black glossy card stock looks - it catches the light and just adds a little somethin' somethin'. 😊

Sheetload Pop Up Birthday Card

I finished off another one of those July Sheetload of Cards** (that makes 7 finished out of 8) and I made it into a Pop Up birthday card for our daughter.  The front is pretty much the same as the others, I didn't add anything extra to it as all the fun is on the inside.

**I made all eight of the July Sheetload of cards, doing the fronts only. I wanted to take my time and finish off the insides for cards that I knew I would need coming up, rather than finish all eight at the same time. These ones will be for my stash and not donated to the nursing home as most of my Sheetload cards are.

The Lorna Label die set is a favourite of mine, and having these add ons make it even more so. This one uses the Happy Birthday Lorna Add-Ons. 😊

I still have one more card to finish off the inside ... but I haven't enjoyed this process as much as I thought I would. I think I'm just tired of the same card fronts and wish I had just finished them off all at once and been done. I'll likely leave that last one until the New Year now.

Pop Up Birthday Card w/ Sheetload

Welcome to Fun Fold Friday here on my blog! I finished off another one of those July Sheetload of Cards (that makes 5 finished out of 8) and made it a pop-up using dies by Karen Burniston. In her newest release there are two Add-Ons for the Lorna Label Pop-Up, and I couldn't wait to play with this one. It's the Just A Note Lorna Add-Ons and it creates this lovely cutaway area in the centre of the Lorna Label Pop-Up. 

OMGoodness, I am going to have so much fun with this. The words can be cut away from the centre if you just want to use the words with their shadow, or you can use the word dies only to create the phrase on it's own. I used gold foil card stock to tie in with the front, but will use something with a little more contrast on my next card. I believe the instructions said it will fit in a 4" deep card (this one is 5x7") so there is even more versatility. Yep - I'm a fan 😊

I stamped the greeting on one of the Short Crosshatch Rectangles (matted with more patterned paper from the package) and added some butterflies die cut from gold foil paper. Sticking with the gold foil theme, I die cut the Happy Birthday to adhere to the pop-up step on the Lorna Label and my card was finished.

Butterfly Bunny Birthday Card Duo

Welcome to Fun Fold Friday here on my blog!  After I used this die to make Easter cards, I made a note to use it again for summer Birthday cards. This week I made these two and the second one is a pop up.

The die is quite large, so I made my cards into 5x7" but a 6x6" square card would work as well. The patterned paper is MANY years old and from my stash. I die cut the Butterfly Bunny from patterned paper and adhered them both to burgundy card stock. Then the images were fussy cut so I could pop them up with thin foam tape.

For this first card I added Stickles glitter glue around the butterfly wings, and added a pair of small die cut butterflies.

Below is the inside of the first card ... with a stamped sentiment and a light green vellum butterfly.

The second card is stepped up. I die cut butterflies from both patterned paper and white pearl vellum, adhering three of them over the butterflies on the main image. They were glued down along the butterfly bodies only, so there is some lift to the wings.

The first card base was white but I wanted to try it with a Kraft card base as well. In the end, I think I like the white one better. For the inside of this second card I used Karen Burniston's Lorna Label Pop Up.

The 'fluttering by' sentiment is actually part of a larger stamp that also says 'I miss you'. I knew I wouldn't use that one very often, so I trimmed away the 'miss you' portion and can add it to the 'fluttering by' sentiment again if I do need it. But I will get lots more use out of that stamp with it saying "fluttering by to say ..." 

I also added a couple more butterflies to the pop up area, and of course - Glitter Dot stickers for some shimmer.

The birthday sentiment was stamped on a scalloped white panel - both it and the crosshatch green panel are from the Short Crosshatch Rectangles die set - also by Karen Burniston

Rainbow Chihuahua Pop-Up Birthday Card

I wanted to play with some bright & happy colours, so pulled out another one of those rainbow dog panels and made a pop-up birthday card for my stash.

If you would like to learn more about these rainbow dog note cards, I did a YouTube video HERE a few months ago. This panel was from one of the note cards, which I cut down & matted it with black cardstock. I added it to a card base after covering the front of the base with rainbow patterned paper. I wanted to add a little somethin' something so Nuvo Drops made the nose raised and shiny.

Inside I used Karen Burniston's Lorna Label Pop Up. This was a re-release of one of my favourite dies from when she was with a different company. Back then the die 'cut into' the inner card but now it's a 'glue in' which is much more versatile. Ironically, this is a top folding A2 card which is what worked best with the old die set. 

I pulled out KB's Baking Borders and die cut the bases from a scrap of the rainbow paper and the tops from rainbow holographic cardstock. As I said in the original video, the note cards came with coordinating envelope seals which I usually save for the envelopes. For this card though, I added the seal to one of the decorator dies that comes with the Lorna Label die set so I could use it inside the card. 

Since I'd trimmed the cupcake border to fit on the bump out, I had a small strip leftover. I trimmed away two of the cupcakes and added one to the sentiment panel and saved one to decorate the front. As usual, I finished off the inside of the card before going back to complete the front.

Pop Up Easter Card

I thought I was finished sharing Easter Cards, but found these photos in the folder and I don't want to hold onto them until next year. So HERE I my final Easter Card of 2024!  😊 The front has patterned paper and a large ephemera piece the front. I kept it nice and simple because all the fun is on the inside!

I used the Lorna Label die set inside, which is an updated version of one that Karen Burniston had out years ago. I've talked about the differences between the versions in previous posts and I believe Karen addresses them in her assembly video. I am so happy that the Lorna Label Pop Up is back!

I added her Happy Easter & shadow and some butterflies from the Flutter Charms set. The bottom 'step' of the pop up is perfect for tying ribbon around! I also added (yet another) bunny border across the patterned paper seam - I love those bunnies.

Springtime Pop Up Card

I still have Easter paper & cut-aparts in my stash - the same ones I've been using for several years. I won't buy new ones until I can use these up ... and I'm actually (finally!) making a dent in that basket. Today's card features a 4x4" cut-apart with patterned paper and a die cut butterfly on the front. In fact, this card ended up being quite a stash buster!

Inside I used the 'new' Lorna Label Pop Up die set by Karen Burniston. The Lorna Label was one of my favourite pop up dies waaaaaay back when it came out and, and I'm soooooo happy she brought it back. This time it's a 'glue in' instead of a 'cut in' which means you can add it into different sizes of cards without worrying about having the inner piece fitting through your die cutting machine. That also reduces the bulk of your finished card which is always a good thing. You can add the die cut piece anywhere you want along the fold, and it's just all the way around a great updated set. 

For my card today, I added it to a side folding card which is something I used to do with the old set too. I love to share different ways you can use your die sets, since they are an investment. 

The stamped sentiment was punched out and added to the left side of the card so I would have room to sign our names on the right.

The flower elements were already in my Easter bin - likely die cut for a different project one year and not used. So I added them to this card and then a couple more of those die cut butterflies. The butterflies were lightly inked with dye inks and a blending brush and I added some sparkle with Pops of Color (a thick glitter glue).

Today I'm sharing an Easter card made with some dies by Karen Burniston, including the Lorna Label Pop Up which is a re-release of a die she had years ago through Elizabeth Craft Designs. It was one of my favourite dies back then ... it 'cut into' the inner card but this new one is a 'glue in' and I like it much better. It fits in lots of different card sizes because you don't have to worry about fitting the card through your die cutting machine!

I also used her Easter borders, Happy Spring and Happy Easter too. I love how bright and happy this card is!

Teal Pop-Up Birthday Card

Good morning friends

Today's share uses a combination of both old and new supplies. All the card pieces were in my 'In Progress' bin. It was pretty much finished a long time ago and just needed a greeting. Who knows what interrupted me at that time, and why I didn't leave the card out on my stamping table to finish. 

The patterned paper panel has a label cut from the centre, then it is popped up with foam tape on a white panel. I like that shadowbox look and will have to remember to try it again.

Inside I used the Lorna Label Pop-Up, which sadly has been discontinued. It was one of my favourites so I continue to use it though. The trees and birds (stamps and dies) I've had for several years, and the patterned paper for a lot longer than that.

I used some of Karen Burniston's Word Set dies for the 'Hello' on the front, and 'Happy Birthday' inside.

This one went into my box to donate to Seniors Secret Service.
