Birthday Accordion Card & Slider Box

It's time for Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge for March, with the theme:  "VACATION!" - where do you want to go? Beach? Mountain Cabin? Farm Livin'?" While I am not a beach girl - I chose to make an ocean themed project today. I started with the Slider Box and some pretty patterned paper from my stash. Then I chose a bunch of dies by Karen Burniston for my project, and they are all linked below.

The Rainbow Holographic cardstock adds a lot of shimmer and shine. I love a bright red crab, but went with soft purple for this one. Those little crabs from the Beach Borders are SO darn cute.

Using the decorator rectangles from the Slider Box with hinges from the Charm Accordion I  created an accordion card that folds up inside the box. It's a fun surprise when you slide the box open.

Using one of the frames from the Slim Frames I created a little shaker on the accordion card front, but I snipped two crabs from the border and adhered them down inside the shaker with the dream word sticker. So they don't move around when you shake the frame.

This is the bottom of the box, which is revealed when you remove the accordion card.

The back side of the card has some stickers from the same package as the patterned paper, but I had to use adhesive as they didn't stick well on their own.

I know just who this is going to for her birthday!

The rest of the Design Team is linked on the right side of my blog and I hope you will check out what they came up with for the challenge. Karen Burniston will have her post tomorrow (Wednesday) on her BLOG.

Late last year I was asked how many cards I make but I didn't have a clear number. Since many of my posts include more than a single card or project, I thought it would be fun to keep track this year.

Card Tally for 2023
January - 53 cards
February - 56 cards
March so far - 15 Cards

Additional Supplies:
Purple textured cardstock - Bazzill
Crinkle seam binding - Stampin' Up
Rainbowow Hollographic cardstock - Recollections
White cardstock
Blending Brushes
Gems - Stampin' Up
Staedtler fine liner markers
Black sharpie
Alcohol markers

AHOY Photo Collage Pop Up Card

Hello crafty friends ...

It's time for Karen Burniston's May 2020 Designer Challenge! Karen challenged the team to use "The Treasure Chest and/or Treasure Charms" for our project.

Since I have already made a couple of cards with the Treasure Chest, I wanted to play with the charms and also the new Pattern Plate Swirls! Below is the front of my card! The Alpha was used for the word AHOY, and I snipped apart the Pattern Plate to nestle into the top right and bottom corners.

Remember you can always see my interactive cards in action on my YouTube Channel HERE.

Only had a single sheet of this 6 x 6" patterned paper, so stretched it with card stock layers and borders. I chose the Photo Collage Pop Up inside, filling the polaroid frames with the little crab from the Sea Animals die set and both the new Cruise Charms and the Treasure Charms.

Red white and blue remind me of USA colours, so I added in the kraft and lighter blue to make it a little less patriotic. I really liked that patterned paper, so had to choose colours that went with it!

I also added in the Octopus from the Ocean Animals.

I hope you will check out what the rest of the Design Team came up with for the challenge - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project and video tomorrow (Wednesday May 6) on her BLOG.

Octopus Treasure Pop Up Card

Hello crafty friends ...

It's Fun Fold Friday here on my blog and I have a fun ocean themed Pop Up card to share today!

I wanted to have another play with Karen Burniston's new Treasure Chest, so added it to the Cupcake Pop Up, and pulled out both the Sea Animals and the Ocean Animals too.

Remember you can see all my interactive cards on my YouTube Channel HERE!

Once I had cut the Cupcake Pop Up into the patterned card stock, I backed the opening with pieces of the same patterned paper so the kraft backing card doesn't show when you look at the card from the side. It's easy enough to do and does make for a more polished looking finished card.

Once again, I have added a stamped greeting on the underside of the Treasure Chest lid, which you see when you lift it up.

NOTE:  I trimmed the side edges of the back lid piece even with the sides treasure chest base. Also, the tip of the icing part of the Cupcake Pop Up does stick out a little above the treasure chest, which is a good place to add an element if you wish. I chose to trim it off though, so it is just below the top of the closed Treasure Chest.

This is a birthday card for a special friend, and will be hand delivered so I didn't have to worry too much about bulk.

Crabs & Treasure Chest Pop Up BLOG HOP Card!

Hello crafty friends ...

The Karen Burniston Design Team is having a Blog Hop to kick off previewing the new release AND there is a Giveaway! Each of the Design Team will have a chance for you to win a $25 Gift Certificate! Details on how to win are at the end of my post.

I have a link below the prize information, that will take you to a 'flip book' of the new release, which is always fun to see.

A friend gifted me with this fun nautical themed 6 x 6" patterned paper, so I used it for my card today.   As usual, I created the inside first, then used the leftover strips of patterned paper to then decorate the front. The 'Ahoy Matey' piece is a cut-apart from the paper pad, and the HELLO is from the Word Set 6 Summer.

Remember you can always see my interactive cards on my YouTube Channel HERE

Inside I used the NEW Treasure Chest and Treasure Charms with the older Sea Animals and Ocean Animals ... paired with the Parcel Pop Up. Whew - that was a mouthful.

When you lift the flap of the treasure chest, you see the gold and jewels inside, and a stamped greeting. I also used some crab arms to hold onto the matted labels (from the new Paper Frames Pop Up) which is where we can sign our names.

GIVEAWAY:
To celebrate the release Karen Burniston and each of the Karen Burniston - KB Riley LLC Design Team members will be giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to some lucky person who comments on our blog posts, so make sure you join the hop and comment on everyone's blog post. Winners will be randomly chosen from ALL of the blog hop comments received on our blog posts by Monday, April 13th 2020. Lots of chances to win some goodies, so just leave a comment on this post or any other blog hop posts to enter! Don't forget to leave some way for us to contact you, in case you are the lucky winner as often times we draw a name and have no way to reach you and have to keep drawing. Palm Tree Celebrate Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends

Today's card using a few more of the upcoming new release by Karen Burniston ... the Ocean Animals, Wine Charms and Celebrate die. I've paired them here with the Palm Tree Pop-Up, but used it a little differently as you will see .

The front panel were fun to make. I cut the decorator panel slightly smaller than the Gatefold card front, which is 6 x 5". Then I die cut the stitched waves from the Tropical Scene several times across the panel. It doesn't reach all the way to the edges, so I just centred the die between the edges each time I ran it through the Big Shot. Then I cut the panel in half vertically and adhered each half to the sides of my Gatefold card. I like the embossed look the waves give the panel, but since they didn't cut all the way to the edges it was easy peasy to adhere the side panels.

The light water colour panel was just a scrap of white card stock I had grabbed when there were some ink puddles on my glass mat. I dipped and dragged it through the ink then put it aside to dry as I didn't need it but didn't want to 'waste' the ink puddles. I always save these pieces to use later on on something.

I die cut the Octopus from the new Ocean Animals, and several wine glasses from the new Wine Charms. I used a water colour panel from my stash that I had created with Colorburst and Magical Shakers. The purple isn't nearly as harsh in real life as it shows in the photos. The Wine Charms are really cool - they are going to be a fun addition to many people's collections. They have two differently shaped glasses, two differently shaped bottles, the labels for the bottles and the 'filler' for the glasses, as well as a bunch of grapes. I cut the wine glass filler from white card stock and added some shimmer with a Wink of Stella pen.

Here is a look at the inside, where I added the Palm Tree Pop-Up to the left side of my Gatefold card. I like that this is such a different way to use this Pop-Up, instead of a standard top or side fold card.

The Sea Turtle from the Sea Animals is holding one of the wine bottles, and I added some stamped dot clusters as well as a sprinkling of die cut sea shells from the Tropical Scene die set.

The Celebrate is the same font as the previously released Happy Birthday die that I use so often and it's a nice big size to make a statement on your projects. The crab from the Sea Animals is also holding a wine glass. The new Ocean Animals also has a crab, but it is bigger and facing the other direction so that will be fun to pair with the Sea Animal crab for lots of different scenes etc.

The Palm Tree island comes from the Tropical Scene set as well.

Finally, for those of you who like to Pin group shots, here you go:

Beachy Box Card

Good morning friends

I often get out older dies to use on my projects. After all, I liked them enough to purchase them at the time, and just because they are a couple of years old they still have a ton of life left in them! Especially when you pair them with some newer items as I did here with this Beach Box Card.

I used several of Karen Burniston scene and charm dies and beach themed patterned paper for my card share today.

This is the back of the card.

I love how these cards fold completely flat to fit into a standard A2 envelope.

I hope I've inspired you to pull out some of your older supplies and give them a whirl.

Shark Shaker Card

Good morning friends

This card started with me heading to the garage to put an empty tissue box in the recycling bin. I looked at it and thought "that looks like ocean waves" ... and I had to take a detour into the craft room. I made the pieces into a card - specifically a shaker card and used the Shark from Karen Burniston's Sea Animals. This shark just cracks me up.

The shark has been adhered inside the shaker so he doesn't move around, and the resin hearts are added on top of the transparency. The sequins shake all around the shark for a fun effect.

Another piece of the tissue box is one of the matted layers inside the card.

I'm having a lot of fun making shaker cards these days!

Supplies:
Grey, black and white card stocks
Patterned paper - Kleenex Box
Blue and Teal Soft Finish Card Stock - Elizabeth Craft Designs
Acetate
Resin heart stickers - Doodlebug
Sequins
Stitched Circle dies - MFT Stamps
Stamps - Stampendous

KB DC Always Be A Mermaid

Good morning friends

It's time for Karen Burniston's April 2018 Designer Challenge with the theme: "HIP TO BE SQUARE" - incorporate a square (or squares) into your project of any theme."

I used the Spinner Square Pop-Up and some new patterned papers to create my card today. I thought this 4 x 6" sticker had such a cute saying so that is what started my card.

I kept the front nice and simple, and just added a die cut seashell to the mermaid's hand.

All the fun is on the inside!  Below is the card opening...

... and here it is fully open where the blue mermaid spins out from behind the centre square.

For the mermaid, I cut her hair 3x and staggered them to make a really full head of hair floating in the water. I also made her skin light blue to mimic the blue mermaids on the patterned paper.

I went over the words 'a Birthday Wish' with a wink of Stella pen to make them blend in with the background a little better. The words catch the light when the card is turned, something it's hard to see in photos.

The cute crab from the Sea Animals Set was also cut out of blue.

A few snips with my scissors and I turned the shark into a dolphin!

I had a lot of fun making this card!

I hope you will check out the rest of the Design Team posts  - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project on HER BLOG tomorrow (Wednesday April 3) and she will also share the teams posts. It's always fun to see them grouped together in one post!

"King for a Day" Shark Shaker Birthday Card

Good morning friends

For Masculine Card Monday here on my blog, I have a shaker card made with some of Karen Burniston's new dies. To create the backgrounds, I dabbed a craft mat with Distress Oxide inks then spritzed the ink with water then dipped and dragged the pieces through the puddles. I like all the different variations you can get - these inks are really something.

The card front has two openings, and the top one has an acetate topper so I could turn it into a shaker. Before adhering it all together though, I added the shark (from the new Sea Animals) with foam tape. The crown was adhered afterwards, on top of the acetate. The new Word Set Royalty is fun and I like how well it works for masculine cards.

In the second opening, I added a stitched wave from the Tropical Scene die set.

This shark die. I love this shark. It's ridiculous how much I love this shark die.

Here is a peek at the inside, where I created a little scene using the Tropical Scene die set.

I plan on giving this to our Son-In-Law for his birthday in a few days. He loves the tropics, that one.
