'Coffee & Cupcake' Pop Up Birthday Card

 

Hello my crafty friends!  It's time for Karen Burniston's first Designer Challenge of 2022, where she challenged the Design Team with ""BIRTHDAY CAKE" - make a birthday card featuring cake or cupcakes." I combined several different die sets for my pop-up Birthday card and I'm really happy with how it turned out!

The front is nice and flat, since the card will likely be displayed open.  Using the frames from the Flip Frame Pop Up and the Celebrate die with patterned paper (retired) my card front was finished.

Inside, I used the Coffee Cup Pop Up as the main feature and added a cupcake from the Cupcake Pop Up onto the right side. What could go better with a cupcake than a hot cup of coffee? ❤️  Finally, I added the Happy Birthday and Happy Birthday Shadow to the cup lid.

I always say that the dies by Karen Burniston play well together, so I pulled out a previously released Cake Trims for the pretty heart border. I cut it from a red mirror card stock and saved the fallaway hearts to decorate the cupcake icing etc.

There is also extra shimmer from a Wink of Stella pen, and of course my Shimmer Spray.

To make sure I could fit the height of the tall Coffee Cup AND the Happy Birthday, I made a custom card size - 5.5 x 6". Since it will likely be hand delivered, I have a 6" square envelope to slip it into. Otherwise, I could have made it 5 x 6" and used a standard A7 (5 x 7") envelope.

The Slim Frames made a good signing block as well as bringing in a little more solid colour.

One more look ...

The patterned paper package is one I've had in my stash for about 3 years, and I've decided to USE IT instead of hoarding it. You will be seeing a number of cards made with these papers in the coming weeks. 😊

Bouquet of Flowers Sympathy Card

Hello! Today's card is a sympathy card made for friends. I wanted it to be extra special, and I chose Karen Burniston's Flower Pot Pop Up and scraps of card stock in various yellows and grey. I have a walk through on YouTube video: 

The card base and envelope is from Stampin' Up and I added flowers/vine and a 'Thinking of You' to the outside but kept everything quite flat so the card opens up all the way for display.

I used one of the square vellum doily's as a stencil to add a little colour to the inside of the card. All of the other white card stock is actually a pearlized card. The With Sympathy dies are also by Karen Burniston.

I have had these butterfly stickers in my stash for a long time and added one to the card as well.

March 2020 Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Hello crafty friends ...

It's time for a Designer Challenge with Karen Burniston's team, and this month the theme is "TREE" - incorporate a tree into a card of any theme. You may choose from any of the Tree die sets (Tree, Evergreen Pivot, Christmas Tree, Christmas Trees Pop Stand, Palm Tree, Oval Frames Heart Tree, Winter Charms, etc.)

I chose the Christmas Trees Pop Stand for my card today, and made a Father's Day card! 

Once the inside was done, I started on the front. The tree on the front is actually the fallaway piece from the centre of the largest Christmas Tree Pop Stand die. Because Pop Stands open completely flat for display, I made sure that everything on the front was nice and flat, even die cutting the word balloon die into the craft panel, then again from white card stock and inlaying it into the opening. If I were to add foam tape to any of the elements (which I love to do), then the card would not display nice and flat.

I like the double stitched line on this die from Nature Edges - I was able to ink the bottom portion of the kraft panel and line it back up with the top piece, which had been inked with Distress Oxide inks & a stencil for the clouds. That give me a nice flat panel but you can see the definition between ground and sky.

The patterned paper was truly the inspiration for this card, which is typically how I work. Those water coloured trees are just so pretty! I off-set the Christmas Tree Pop Stand towards the left which gave me room to add another element to the right of the tree.

The Deer from the Christmas Animals was the perfect addition to this card, which is for our eldest's daughter's hubby. 

Word Set 5 Royalty makes a great sentiment for a Father's Day card, don't you think? I added the Enjoy from the Enjoy the Ride set and we will sign our name beside that.

NOTE:  The fun thing about the dies by Karen Burniston, is that YOU get to choose your card size. While there are ways to make larger cards using a 'standard' sized die cutting machine, for this one I did use a larger machine.

I hope I have shown you how versatile the dies can be, just because a die set is marketed as a Christmas set, it really can work all year long! Barn Pop Stand ... a Sneak Peek

Hello my crafty friends

I'm happy to be sharing another sneak peek of the COMING SOON new release by Karen Burniston. The new dies will be shipping in just a few weeks, so you can contact your local store to have them place their pre-orders now!

I kept the front sweet and simple, since all the fun is on the inside. But with the chicken wire borders you might have an idea of what is on the inside.

The chicken wire is part of the new Farm Edges, and the Thinking of You is also new. It cuts as a single piece, which makes it easy to adhere to your project.

Here is a look at the card as it is opening ...

... and fully open. YES!!! Karen Burniston has brought back the discontinued Barn Pop Stand, which includes the sliding barn doors. I had so much fun using this set when it was available with the old company and so many customers have been asking that it come back. YAY!!

I chose to do a re-make of a card I made back then. The inside of the barn is dark and there is a pair of eyeballs looking out. That card was very popular so people should also like this different way to do it. I will link that card at the end of my post.

The Tractor/hill is another die in the new Farm Edges, and here I backed it with the grass from the Nature Edges to resemble a wheat field. The Howdy is one of the new dies and I'm finding all kinds of cards to use that on.

The Pig is one of the new animal dies - and I just adore him. I love the shape of his head! The bib and fork are included with the new Chicken, Pig, and lamb die set.

The fence is the third die included in the new Farm Edges, and the hearts I added are from the new Triple Flip die set. They cut three at a time, so I added two inside the card and one on the front.
