Explosion Card for Karen Burniston's Birthday Blog Hop

Yes, Karen Burniston's Design Team is back with ANOTHER Blog Hop! This one has been in the works for a long time, so when Karen & Tanya decided to have a New Release Blog Hop we were so relieved that they didn't choose this date as we really wanted to surprise Karen!

Because I like to work ahead, this was actually the first Slimline card I made with the Explosion Pop Up. Then, since I knew I wouldn't be posting it until today I did make another that I could share immediately. I was so excited at how well the Explosion Pop UP works in a Slimline card I wanted other's to know too so they can make some as well.

I used the Alpha dies for the word CELEBRATE, and again I was pleased with how well they worked on a Slimline. What a fun way to personalize a card, if you were to add someone's name! 

Here is  a peek at the inside, with the Explosion Pop Up. I also used the Border Blends, Cupcakes from the Cupcake Pop Up, and the swinging banner is from the Paper Frames Pop Up.

The words are from Word Set 2 - Birthday and I cut them from black card stock that had double sided adhesive on the back to make them easy to adhere to the card.

I didn't want the red card base to show through the opening behind the pop up piece, so I adhered a folded piece of the same patterned paper inside as shown below.

Triple Flip Girlie Card

I have a YouTube video for you, that talks about the details and shows my card in action!

Because I am wanting to make Slimline Cards these days, I am also figuring out what dies will work on them - and that is what inspired my card today. The sweet Dolled Up Charms are part of Karen Burniston's new release and they fit perfectly on the Triple Flip Pop Up -  which fits perfectly on a Slimline Card! 

Happy Dance!! 

I did make this one with a 4" height instead of the more popular 3.5" but the length is still 8.5". The card fits in a #10 business envelope.

When you pull the tab with the arrow to the right, the 3 paddles flip over to reveal the other side, which on this card was decorated with stickers from the same package as the patterned paper.

Inside I used the new Go Wild dies, which I thought worked well with the Dolled Up Charms. All the charms and the Go Wild were cut from white card stock and coloured with Copic Markers.

Yellow Floral Birthday Card

Oh. My. Word. 

I loved the Blossoms in Bloom bundle in the new Stampin' Up catalogue and now that my goodies are here, I can tell you I'm in LOVE with this set. The blooms are large - they fill the front of an A2 card - and the dies cut like butter. 

I bought the set because my stamp collection is really lacking in the floral department. I don't usually buy 'more of the same', so that is why this set appealed to me. I don't have anything like it! There are two large dies in the bundle. Well there are also smaller bloom dies but for this card I just used the large ones. I die cut the outline layer from yellow card stock, then die cut the 'thicker' die from a deep yellow. I had used double sided adhesive on the outline as I didn't want to fiddle with all those tiny fine lines and glue. As I said, the dies cut easily and the two pieces lined up perfectly. When I was finished I was just in AWE at how beautiful it was.

So what did I do then? Chopped it in half, ha ha. This is a popular bundle and there are already tons of samples online. I'm certainly not the first person to do this layout, but the one that I saw first was by Suzanne Netz.

Just look at the detail in those die cuts! I adhered them to the top and bottom edges of my card, and just sat back smiling at the card. I seriously can't get over how pretty this bloom die cut is. After lightly inking the flower centres and adding some glitter, I added a popped up sentiment and those pretty crystals from Studio Katia to finish off the card front. The card base is a lovely white pearl so the card just shimmers. Ahhhhhh.

Here is a peek at the inside, with the stamps from the bundle stamped in a light yellow in behind the greeting.

I added a little more bling inside and the card was done. This one is going into my stash for when I am wanting a special Birthday Card.

I have already made five more cards using this bundle, and will be sharing those in the coming weeks.

Slimline Pop Up Card for Karen Burniston's New Release Blog Hop

Today we are having a Blog Hop to show you the new Release by Karen Burniston! All the details for the hop and prize information are at the end of my post.

I have a YouTube video for you that shows the card in action and goes over some of the details.

I used the new Pattern Plate Fronds on the front of my card. The die is the size of an A2 card (4.25 x 5.5"), so I cut one full piece and one partial to cover my 8.5" long card, trimming off the excess on the edges. The join was hidden by the patterned paper! With the popularity of Slimline cards, this technique has been done many times by many different card designers, so I thought it would be fun to try it as well.

The tropical leaves are from the new Landscape Scene, and I added a Crosshatch Oval and the Happy Birthday as well. Copper sequins finish it off - I do love a little bling on a birthday card.

Inside I used the new Flip Frame Pop Up, the Safari Animals and Go Wild. I had been trying to make a Gatefold with both the Flip Frame and Palm Tree Pop Up for my card but it was not working so I salvaged one of the palm trees and added it inside my card.

The animals were die cut from white card stock and inked with dye inks and i-crafter blending brushes!.

A a few more copper sequins were added inside, then I put a heart in each of the animals arms. Finally I added the Celebrate!

Shaker Gift Tag

I was getting our Grandson's Birthday gift ready in a white gift bag and I wanted to make a tag with a big POP of colour. I grabbed the new Cool Tag 6 and the Silly Monsters from Your Next Stamp and made a shaker tag!

I like how the spots on the monster match the spots on the optional dotted panel inside the tag frame. I want to try to use this dotted die (repeated) on a Slimline card and see if that works!

I added some bright Gumdrops and used my Brother label maker for his name.

Slimline Ice Cream Card

Today I'm sharing another Ice Cream themed Slimline Card. As mentioned in previous posts, every July (on a certain day) my Grandpa would take my Mom to the Soda Shop in their little town for an Ice Cream Sundae and my Mom kept that tradition with my brother and I and even after we moved out.  When Dad could no longer drive, we would make sure my Mom got her ice cream sundae on that day. Now that she is in heaven, we keep that tradition going with our children and grandchildren. It's a happy way to honour her memory! 

I know the photos are blurry - it's because the chipboard Ice Cream Cone is attached to the card front with an Action Wobble so it bobs and wobbles around making it very hard to photograph.

I die cut Your Next Stamp's Slim Striped Panel Die from blue card stock and layered it over the patterned paper panel.  I didn't add a lot of glitter, but I HAD to add some of the Studio Katia Crystal Clear Confetti for a little sparkle.

Inside I stamped 'happy' then wrote July on a white die cut rectangle, which was then layered with blue card stock and patterned paper scraps to the card inside.

Below you can see the Action Wobble. This card was sent to my brother, and I think he will get such a kick out of it.

Pop Up Swan Card

It's Fun Fold Friday here on my blog, and today I'm sharing a card made with products from Your Next Stamp, Karen Burniston and Studio Katia. I talk about the details of this card on my YouTube Video 

I wanted to have another play with the sweet Swanderful set from Your Next Stamp, and this is what I came up with. Nesting two of the Fancy Scalloped Heart dies together give you this frame with the scallops both on the inside and outside of the frame. Love that! I added a stamped and die cut swan inside the frame after creating some clouds on the white panel in behind.

Inside I used the Cupcake Pop Up, but I doubled it. I have a link that shows how I did this on a previous card at the end of my post.

I added Stitched Puffy Clouds and some blue tinged sequins as well as a matted oval for me to write a message.

Normally I use larger labels or shapes to disguise the Cupcake shape, but I really wanted to use this Paper Smooches label die on this card. A little bit of the cupcake top stuck out on each side and I simply snipped them off with scissors! I could probably have left them, but I do like the cleaner look with them gone.

How sweet are these swan stamps?  I added a stamped greeting on a fishtail banner and my card was done.

Rainbow Zebra Slimline Birthday Card

Hello crafty friends ...

There were a couple of items in the new Stampin' Up catalogue that really grabbed me, and this Zany Zebra set was one of them. Like the Playful Penguins I purchased last  year, I thought they would make great additions to the birthday cards I donate to my Mom's Nursing Home each month.

This is the first time I used them, and now I think I will always have to do Rainbow Zebra's - because these ones just make me happy!

I made a Slimline Card (no surprise there) and used this fun Slimline Die from Trinity Stamps, which was one of my first Slimline die purchases. I like how it evenly cuts and spaces those square windows! And if you follow my blog, you know I backed those windows with acetate - I love using acetate on my cards!

In the photo below you can see the shine from the acetate behind the openings. I also added some confetti from Studio Katia for more sparkle and shine.

This is the inside - I just couldn't stop adding Rainbow Zebra's to this card! The pretty scalloped Slimline die inside is from Studio Katia.

Cat Sympathy Card

Hello crafty friends ...

A friend's older cat passed away and I wanted to send them a card to let them know we were thinking about them. I have been busy making cards to share for Sneak Peeks of Karen Burniston's new release with lots of bright and busy patterned papers. I needed something soft and soothing for this card and this 6 x 6" paper pad was in my stash.

I used the heart dies from Studio Katia, which I absolutely love. 

Here is a peek at the inside, which is also clean and simple. I finally purchased the Critter Condolences stamp set from MFT stamps since I do make pet sympathy cards enough to warrant it. 

I'm sure our friends are really missing Oscar - he was a cat they rescued and had quite the personality.

Ice Cream Cone Shaker Gatefold Card

Today I'm sharing another Ice Cream themed Slimline card that I sent to our middle daughter and family. Every July (on a certain day) my Grandpa would take my Mom to the Soda Shop in their little town for an Ice Cream Sundae. She continued the tradition with my brother and I even once we were living on our own!  When my Dad could no longer drive, we would make sure my Mom got her ice cream sundae on that day. Now that she is in heaven, we keep that tradition going with our children and grandchildren. It's a happy way to honour her memory! 

I created a Gatefold Slimline card this time. The measurements were the same as cutting a regular Slimline ... 7 x 8.5". Instead of scoring in the centre at 3.5", I scored it 1-3/4" from each side. So my folded card is 3.5 x 8.5".

The decorative panel on the front front is 3 x 5.5", and I added a fun shaker Ice Cream Cone from the Sweet Shop set by Queen & Company.

Here is the card open, and I used Slimline dies from Pink Fresh Studio for the decorative panels in the centre.

I used my i-crafter blending brushes to add the colour around the Crosshatch Circle, and the sentiment was printed from my computer. I also added a bit more colour to the right side of the inside by cutting a stitched fishtail banner from more of the pretty, sparkly patterned paper.
