"Hello" Banner Shaped Card

Good morning friends

I had just received my order that included these large Fishtail Banner dies from Pink and Main, so wanted to try them out right away. They've been on my Wish List for months!! Using the largest die as the card base allowed me to make an almost A2 size shaped card.

Love these sea life images - they are so fun. I'm not really an ocean person but something about these images just makes me happy. I added some sparkly jewel drops as well, to mimic bubbles.

Finally, here is a peek at the inside, with some stamping and a few more stamped & cut out images.

To make this shaped card, I cut two of the largest fishtail banners from white card stock. I love that using dies makes this technique so easy as they always line up perfectly! Simply score a horizontal line 1/4 - 1/2" from the top of the back panel, then add adhesive ABOVE that score line. Adhere to the card front and done.

Supplies:
Large Fishtail Banner dies - Pink and Main
White card stock
Patterned paper - Kaisercraft
Seas the Day stamp set - Pink and Main
Derwent water colour pencils
Water brush
Bakers Twine
Sakura white and black glaze pens
Wink of Stella
Coral, seaweed and inside word stamps - Stampin' Up
Glitter gems - Michaels

Three Cards, One Die

Good morning friends

Earlier this year I decided I needed to add this MFT die to my collection and I'm so glad I did! It cuts a panel where the top and bottom sections fall away and leave you with a sectioned frame. Since I enjoy making shaker cards I thought it would be perfect. And it is! But I find other uses for the Horizontal Cover Up die as well, so today I'm sharing three cards I made using it.

I cut the Horizontal Cover Up three times each from a different but coordinating patterned paper. Then it was simply a matter of re-arranging the pieces so that each card had a different pattern in the two openings! This gave me three pretty card panels and there were no leftover bits. Love that.

First up, is a shaker card. I didn't actually put the patterned paper back in the bottom panel as then the words didn't show up. I used it inside one of the other cards though. The bottom panel is the shaker part of the card and the top panel has a shadowbox look.

This Anniversary card went to our eldest daughter and her hubby.

For the second card, I kept the panel flat and adhered it to a red card base. Then I went to town adding various die cuts!

I die cut the happy 3 times, and adhered them together to make a sturdy element with some 'lift'. I like the shadows these dimensional embellishments add to a card.

The flowers were popped up with different layers of foam tape, since I always like a little dimension on my cards.

Inside is another flower, more Nuvo drops and a penned sentiment on a stitched scalloped rectangle of coordinating patterned paper. Whew - that was a mouthful!

My third card was made pretty much the same as above, with a stamped and fussy cut image instead of a bunch of die cuts.

The colours from the markers/water brush didn't blend as well as I had hoped sine this was stamped on regular card stock and not water colour paper. But I was happy enough with the finished image. I love this stamp and have sure got my use out of it.

I used a black card base to make everything pop, and inside you will see the stitched rectangle that didn't get added back into it's opening on the first card.

You Are Special To Me

Good morning friends

Today's share is a card I made for a friend. I started with an older technique, where you stamp on glossy card stock with watermark ink, dry the ink with a heat gun then sponge dye inks over top. The watermark ink acts as a resist, but the final result was underwhelming. I don't think I had enough contrast with my background stamp being made up of tiny dots. So I did a second panel by white embossing the background stamp and then sponged the colour over top, wiping away the excess from the white embossing with a tissue. Ahhhh - much better!

I combined the two pieces here, cutting the stitched frame from the resist piece and adding vellum waves and stamped sea life to the embossed panel. These cute images are by Pink and Main, and my friend was with me when I bought the set. We were at the Mesa Rubber Stamp Show in March, and initially she had this set in her stack but changed her mind for their gym planner stamps so then I grabbed this set. The Octopus and the Dolphin are my favourite images from the stamp set!

Inside I used another stitched frame with vellum waves and a few more stamps from the set. That seahorse cracks me up.

I'm sure my friend enjoyed getting some Happy Mail last week.

Tropical Chipboard Embellishment Duo

Good morning friends

I'm liking flamingo's these days. And gold. So when I saw these tropical chipboard embellishments on sale at Michaels, I had to add a package (or two) to my cart.

I pulled them out to make a couple of cards and then realized how thick they actually were. I ended up splitting them by pulling off just over half of the chipboard from the backs. This gave me sturdy embellishments without all the original bulk. The discarded chipboard went into recycling.

The pieces come white with gold foiled details so I had fun colouring them with Copic markers.  I also used MFT's Triple Circle Peek-A-Boo window die set, which I found on clearance and get a lot of use out of!

The stamp on the front is actually a single line, so I snipped it apart to use here. It will easily fit back together on an acrylic block if I need to stamp it as one line in the future.

Here is a peek at the inside:

For my second card I really wanted to play up the gold on the embellishments, so used a different paper pad and added gold foil card stock details.

The first card was mailed to a faraway friend, and the second is in my stash.

Christmas Card Trio, Two Flat and One Pop-Up

Good morning friends

I have a trio of Christmas cards to share today that helped me use up what was left of an older holiday  paper package. Two are flat cards and the third is a Pop-Up.

For my first card, I used a background die from MFT, cutting it from white heavy weight card stock then again from the different colours of polka dot patterned paper scraps. These were adhered back in their spots sort of like a puzzle.

This glittered candy cane and the 3-D Merry Christmas stickers were in my stash and they matched so well with the patterned paper I was able to complete the card front with those.

Inside I added a couple of the patterned paper pieces, a stamped greeting and sparkly holly sticker.

This second card has a cardinal on the front, that was one of the papers in the package. I cut it out with Karen Burniston's Crosshatch Squares and added some glitter then was able to use it as an embellishment!

I used the Circle Charm Pop-Up for my third card with more of that patterned paper. I hadn't done a long side fold A2 card with this die set before, and I liked the way it turned out. Once I was finished these three cards I had used up a bunch of the leftover bits and pieces and the only bit left has red polka dots. That piece I can use for die cutting holiday embellishments!

The hearts come with the Circle Charm Pop-Up and I layered a trio of them on the right side.

The Merry Christmas was die cut from some of the red patterned paper, and I added highlights with a white gel pen.

Here is the card when it's opened - the gingerbread man pivots from the front to the inside when the card is opened.

There is a lot of dimension to the Circle Charm Pop-Up, and here is the view from the top. It is still a nice & easy card to put together, and doesn't require a backing card!

Into my stash with these ones and the flat ones will go to my Mom to send out for the holidays.

C4C448 Toucan Hello Sketch Card

Good morning friends

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy4Challenges Blog.  Our August hostess is Anja de Regt, and our guest designer is Connie VanLoosen.

Anja's challenge this week is a sketch challenge:

This is such a fun sketch - and so easy to dress up or dress down. I will use this one again for sure. For my challenge card today I used Karen Burniston's Crosshatch oval die set, nesting two of the ovals together and cutting an oval frame from patterned paper. It was popped up on a white oval with foam tape.

The Toucans are so cute! I coloured them with Intense pencils, but the ink did not blend very well at all with the card stock I used. I added a die cut 'hello' and stamped only the 'there' from a 'hello there' stamp set for my greeting. Then I felt the white oval needed something else, so I added a layered heart from the Katherine Label Pop-Up and some Nuvo Crystal Drops.

Here is a peek at the inside - t
he toucan inside hides the sunglasses printed on the journal card.

50th Anniversary Accordion card

Good morning friends

Today's share is one I made for a 50th Anniversary. I don't know the couple, but I am acquaintances with the wife and I do run into her several times a month. She is really helpful if I have my cane and am trying to manage a parcel - she will often grab the parcel and walk with me to my car, then chat for a bit. One of these times she mentioned that she and her husband were celebrating their 50th Anniversary this month. I can't really repay her for her many kindnesses to me but I could make a special card for them to celebrate such a milestone!

I used Karen Burniston's Fancy Label Accordion for the card itself, as I knew it would be completely different than any other card she may have seen. I also used the Fancy Flourished Frames to decorate the card and I did not weed the inside but left all the little pieces in place. I love the embossed look it gave the edges!

The bride and groom are from the Cake Pop-Up and the little hearts I added are the fallaway pieces from the Cake Trims border I used on the centre panel.

The Numbers worked perfectly, and I penned the word 'years' with a gold metallic gel pen. The largest decorator die has a sweet perforation both inside and outside the cut line, so I inlaid the inner pieces inside the outer frame on the front and back panels. This also reduced bulk for the card. For the centre panel though, I popped up the frame with foam tape.

The perforated heart comes with the Circle Charm Pop-Up die set and since it matched the theme so well I had to add it to the card. I cut a white label and adhered it to the back of the right accordion panel, which is where we signed our names.

Finally, here is a group shot for those of you who like to add my cards to their Pinterest boards.

I actually ran into her yesterday and she thanked me so very much for the card. She hadn't seen anything like it before and it did my heart good to know that it was special for them.

Supplies:
Burgundy textured card stock
Gold foil card stock - Stampin' Up
Black and white card stock
Sakura gel pens

Beachy Box Card

Good morning friends

I often get out older dies to use on my projects. After all, I liked them enough to purchase them at the time, and just because they are a couple of years old they still have a ton of life left in them! Especially when you pair them with some newer items as I did here with this Beach Box Card.

I used several of Karen Burniston scene and charm dies and beach themed patterned paper for my card share today.

This is the back of the card.

I love how these cards fold completely flat to fit into a standard A2 envelope.

I hope I've inspired you to pull out some of your older supplies and give them a whirl.
