C4C412 Canadiana Pop-Up Birthday Card

Good morning friends

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges Blog. I am the hostess this month, with my Design Team Sister Kelly Booth as our Guest Designer. Kelly's blog can be found HERE.

Since it's the third Saturday of the month, it's also a sketch challenge and this is the sketch I came up with:

I rarely stay exactly to the sketch, even when it's my own! I like to think of sketches more as a guideline than a 'cast in stone'. That makes the sketches very versatile, as you can change them up to meet your needs. For instance, you don't need to use three vertical circles, those circles can actually represent embellishments like flowers or butterflies or candy canes. The horizontal patterned paper strip could actually be a ribbon and you easily add a bow on the side. I used the 'idea' of the horizontal strip and tied a twine bow around one of the circle openings.

The Blueprints #23 die set has a die that cuts 3 perfectly centred circles out of a panel and it's one I don't often use. So this time I pulled it out but decided to make the circle panel extend to the top and bottom edges, unlike the sketch.

First I stamped various Canadiana images on the circle die cut kraft panel with watermark ink. Those woody images were stamped on a slightly smaller white card stock panel, then adhered behind the stamped kraft one with foam tape for dimension.

Inside is a Pop-Up using the Cupcake Pop-Up, decorated with a Wild Whisper journal card and fox stamp. Other than the birthday word stamp. all the stamps are by Wild Whisper Designs.

The triangles were stamped along the base of the Pop-Up with watermark ink, then I wrapped twine around the bump. The word 'birthday' was die cut from a coordinating blue card stock and edged with ink for an ombre look. I cut a single tree from Karen Burniston's Tree Pop-Up, snipped it in half and adhered one half to each side of the Pop-Up.

The Wild Whisper patterned paper is heavyweight and has a sheen to it as you can see in the photo below.

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd  love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C 412.
