Two Seashell Birthday Card

Hello my crafty friends

It's been a rough go around here the past couple of weeks. I had to go off of my RA medication before a dentist appointment last month, to give my immune system a fighting chance to help me recover. The appointment ended up being worst case scenario and after a two hour battle with my tooth the dentist sent me home to rest up while they sent my file to an oral surgeon. Who would see me on August 15th. The stress from the trauma sent my RA into a tailspin and I've been in a lot of pain. With a lot less mobility. Got a call a few days later from our eldest who had fallen and badly injured her ankle. She needed help getting to the hospital for X-rays and I couldn't even drive to go help her. Talk about dark moments! My hubby is also my Hero, and he booked it out to the farm to get Heather some help and look after the grandkids until her hubby could get to them.

Every day I woke up worse than when I went to bed, and finally last Tuesday I called the Oral Surgeon to ask to be placed on a cancellation list. They had just had one for that afternoon, so once again hubby came home from meetings early so he could get me to my appointment. The surgeon and his team were really nice, and I was in and out of there within a 1/2 hour. He didn't give me antibiotics, since I had just finished the ones from the dentist and the Rheumy said if there is no infection and things are healing well I could go back on my meds the following week.

Which would have been yesterday. I had been quite feverish the week after the first appointment, but not as bad after the second. So ... once I had two nights fever free I went back on my RA medication three days early. I was trying really hard to avoid being confined to bed but with my mobility getting worse every day, that possibility was looming up at me. Which lead to many more dark moments.

Heather's hubby slipped and fell down their front steps while getting her to HER follow up appointment, and once again I was unable to help them. Those dark moments were getting bigger and more frequent - it's awful when you can't look after yourself, let alone be unable to help those you love.

I was able to spend some time in the craft room that week, which is always so good to help take my mind off of my pain. I made these two Birthday cards to donate to my Mom's nursing home, and doing something to 'give back' cheered me up a lot.

Also, instead of being worse every day now I am seeing small improvements as the RA meds get back to work. WHEW.

The seashell note cards are printed on the back and the front, which is always a nice touch. I used that Sandcastle embossing powder on the Happy Birthday To You. I had purchased it and previously used it on a beach themed card and was surprised that it was more of a pearlized gold than sand. So -- might as well use it instead of gold!

I have had the Seashell dies for a couple of years, and cut the base layer from kraft and the detail layer from white pearl card stock.

Inside I added a kraft panel and clear embossed the Make A Wish. I added one more die cut seashell to finish off the cards.

Back to School Card Trio

Good morning friends

Today's share are the cards I made for three of our Grandkids as they head back to school next week. The other two are in a combination day care/pre-school year round so I didn't make them a card.

First up is the card for Ethan, who loves BLUE.  I have been having a lot of fun with background dies lately, and paired this Circle Panel die from Your Next stamp with one of my Colorburst backgrounds. The cute boy stamp is also from Your Next Stamp.

The cards all have a little hand lettering inside to personalize them even more ...

Next up is Zachary's card - he loves green and black. I used these way-cool layering stripe dies from Pink and Main for the background, cutting the widest one from green card stock. The narrowest die was cut from white and the middle thickness die was cut from black. When you stack each of the die cuts on top of each other, you get this great dimensional background!

The backpack bear is also from Pink and Main. I added glaze pen on sunglasses and nose so they are nice and shiny, and Wink of Stella on his belly - just couldn't help myself. I used the Brutus Monroe cloud background for the clouds, and the 'enjoy'  & stitched clouds are by Karen Burniston

Inside I included a couple of the offcuts from the striped background, hand lettering and the sunglasses stamp.

Finally, here is Olivia's card. I made it with a bunch of scraps and leftover bits & pieces as well as this adorable image from Your Next Stamp.

Even the pink scalloped border was leftover from a different project, and it is from the Cake Pop-Up.

Like many kids, these three are super excited to get back to school and their friends. I love that I can make them happy before they head back with these fun cards.

Hello Card

Good morning friends

I went to wipe off the palette where I scribble my markers and instead decided to spritz it with water and drag a scrap piece of white card stock through the puddles. I liked the background it created, so trimmed it with a rectangle die and decided to go ahead and make a card for my Mom.

I stamped some cactus at the lower right, then added that big die cut 'hello' on an angle. The words 'a big' come with the Hello stamp set at Pink and Main. The panel was matted and adhered to a patterned A2 card.

Inside, I added another stamped cactus and some hand lettering.

Most people like to get happy mail, and this happy card was appreciated by my Mom.

Supplies:
White, green and black card stocks
Sharp Stuff stamps - Brutus Monroe
Black fine point marker
Dashing rectangle dies - Elizabeth Craft Designs
Xyron
Hello die and stamp set - Pink & Main
A2 patterned card - Michaels

Father's Day Cactus Pop-Up Card

Good morning friends

I'm back today with my fourth card for the Karen Burniston Riley/Brutus Monroe collaboration, and I made another Father's Day card using the Sharp Stuff stamp set again.

Below is a peek at the card as it is opening ...

Once again I used the BM Cloud Background and my MISTI to create the patterned paper. I like how different this one looks than the pink ones I did earlier this week. This one is very masculine looking!

I used the Spinner Square Pop-Up, so the second cactus spins out as the card is opened.

For the little scene on the front, I used KB's Nature Edges cut from scrap card stock and brushed in on with a thick brush (think shaving brush). The dies make great stencils too!

Remember to leave me a comment on my Blog Hop collaboration card (see HERE) for a chance to win a Cupcake Pop-Up die! I'll be drawing a name for the prize on May 24th.

Supplies:
Sharp Stuff - Brutus Monroe
Wonky stitched rectangles - MFT Stamps
Weathered Wood embossing powder - Emerald Creek
White, green and brown card stocks
Zig clean colour markers
Happy Father's Day stamps - Lawn Fawn
Stickles
Cloud Background - Brutus Monroe
Water Brush
Distress Oxide Inks
MISTI
Black fine point marker

Floral Mother's Day Card for the Brutus Monroe Blog Hop (with PRIZES!)

Good morning friends

***NOTE:  This is my second post today. Because this is an International Blog Hop, we all wanted to post our cards at the same time. Which for me is 10pm. But this morning I posted a cool Tent Pop-Up SNEAK PEEK card using a bunch of dies from Karen Burniston's upcoming release. Scroll up if you missed that one, or click HERE.

This week the Karen Burniston Riley Design Team is doing a collaboration with the folks at Brutus Monroe. You can see more at the Brutus Monroe BLOG, and today our team is doing a Blog Hop WITH PRIZES!! You should have arrived here from Karen Burniston's Blog!

I made a Pop-Up Mother's Day card for my Mom. Let's talk about the front first.

I'm really proud of how this card turned out, as I used the Brutus Monroe stamps in different ways to inspire you. This patterned paper was a 'free with purchase' - white with white embossed doily's on the front. I stamped the Brutus Monroe Cloud Background with dye inks then smeared them around with my finger as the embossed areas created a resist. It made such a cool looking background!

To get an ombre ribbon, I simply scribbled with a marker on a plastic palette and picked up the colour with a water brush. Then I just touched the ribbon where I wanted the darker colour and it seeped up the ribbon getting lighter as it went. Note, I did protect the patterned paper underneath until the ribbon was dry.

Here is a look at the inside, where I used the same technique and patterned paper inside. The Pop-Up base was created with the Cupcake Pop-Up, and I used the flower pot from the Flower Pot Pop-Up as the pot that the flowers are in. The flowers themselves were stamped, coloured with markers and a water brush, then fussy cut. I used a textured embossing powder on the flower pot to give it some dimension and added a few leafy sprigs as well.

Of course I added a bee and some glitter too as well as sparkle at the flower centres. The bee ties in with the Queen Bee sentiment below the pot of flowers.

The Word Set 5 Royalty works perfectly for Mother's day, and the words on the little banner are in the Brutus Monroe flower set (Conservatory of Quotes). It says "You are AMAZING, always remember that".

The Cupcake Pop-Up makes a great generic Pop-Up card, and since I use it so much that is what I'm offering for a PRIZE! Simply leave me a comment telling me why you like my card and be sure your email address is valid so I can contact you if you win. I will use Random.org to choose a random number from the comments and will draw for the Cupcake Pop-Up Prize on Thursday May 24th.

Cactus Pop-Up Father's Day Card - Brutus Monroe Collaboration

Good morning friends

This week the Karen Burniston Riley Design Team is doing a collaboration with the folks at Brutus Monroe. You can see more at the Brutus Monroe BLOG, and be sure to check out my fellow teammates for their projects.

I decided to make a Father's Day card, so pulled out some woodgrain patterned paper and the Katherine Label Pop-Up. This is a versatile die set, and can be done with a window or not. For today's card I chose to make a circular window using various circles etc from the Snowman Twist Circle Pop-Up die set.

You can also choose whether or not to add a transparency in your window, which I did here. I like that it gives you a little peek at what is inside.

When the card is opened, the stamped label raises and pops up - so cool! I chose to use a different shape on the pop-up arm, than the circular window as an additional surprise when you open the card.

I really like these Brutus Monroe cactus stamps - they were fun to play with and you know how much I love SW imagery!

I'll be back tomorrow with TWO Posts ... tomorrow morning I will have a SNEAK PEEK of the new release by Karen Burniston, and tomorrow evening will be my card for the Karen Burniston Riley/Brutus Monroe BLOG HOP, including a chance to win a prize!!

Floral Birthday Card - Brutus Monroe Collaboration

Good morning friends

This week the Karen Burniston Riley Design Team is doing a collaboration with the folks at Brutus Monroe. You can see more at the Brutus Monroe BLOG, and be sure to check out my fellow teammates for their projects.

I was really happy with how this card turned out! The 'water colour' looking background was actually stamped with the Brutus Monroe Cloud Background Stamp. I used my MISTI and stamped the Cloud Background with one colour of Distress Oxide Ink. Then I rotated the card panel, cleaned off the stamp and repeated with another colour. I did this a third time and the background was done.

The pretty floral bouquet was stamped in black and water coloured with diluted Distress Oxide Inks so it would perfectly match the colours in the background.

Inside I used a couple of dies from Karen Burniston - that large Happy Birthday (which you know I love) and the Gift Card Label. It is such a great size for stamping greetings!

The Happy Birthday was die cut from white card stock, then water coloured with the same inks I used to paint in the floral image.

The same floral image was stamped over the Gift Card Label, in a light pink to tie in with the card front.  I went over the edges of the label, and the layered panel edges on the front with a gold Sharpie and added some sequins for sparkle and shine.

I'll be back tomorrow with a second Karen Burniston Riley/Brutus Monroe collaboration card.

Supplies:
Bristol Smooth card stock
White and light pink card stocks
Conservatory of Quotes floral stamp - Brutus Monroe
Zig Clean Color Markers
Water Brush
Spectrum Noir Glitter Pen
Dashing Rectangle dies - Elizabeth Craft Designs
Seam binding
Fun foam
Cloud Background stamp - Brutus Monroe
Distress Oxide Inks
Gold Sharpie marker
Sequins
Glossy Accents
Stickles
