Hello my crafty friends and welcome to Karen Burniston's July Designer Challenge where she asked her Design Team to create a card with the Theme: "SPINNERS" - create a card of any theme where something spins (this can be Spinner Square, modified Mailbox, Pop 'n Swap or something wound on a string). I haven't used the Spinner Square Pop Up in awhile, so I created a masculine Birthday card with it. I have all the details on YouTube:
I used a lot of foam tape on my card ... and also made it a 5.5" square card. We will be hand delivering the card so I don't need to worry about the extra postage for mailing a square envelope.
The card is top folding, and the Celebrate Banner spins down from the centre pop up square as the card is opening. So fun! Below you can see what it looks like as you start to open the card.
Here is the card fully open. I used the Memory Charms to highlight a few cactus images from the patterned paper package, the Happy Birthday and Happy Birthday Shadow die as well as the Short Crosshatch Rectangles. Everything that is available is linked below.
I added cactus pieces behind each of the photo frames, using up a leftover piece of patterned paper in the package. They would have been really cute with acetate behind the frames to resemble glass, too. The Happy Birthday, and the Happy Birthday Shadow are also from Karen Burniston.

Hello! These cards (and the video) were completed over two weeks ago, but I wanted to save the post for a Fun Fold Friday here on my blog. You can see all the details on my YouTube video here:
Inside, I used Karen Burniston's Spinner Square Pop Up and the acorns use a retired punch from Stampin' Up. As I said in the video, they were already punched and assembled and sitting in the package of patterned paper.
On the card fronts, I used one of the dies from the Picture This die duo - also from Stampin' Up. Everything that is available is linked below for you.
After die cutting this diagonal striped panel, I backed the rectangle openings with patterned paper scraps. Then I took the fallaway pieces and glued them in the same layout, to the card panel above.
... one more look ...

It's time for Karen Burniston's June 2020 Designer Challenge, where we are to use any of the Pattern Plates for our project. I chose the Swirl Pattern Plate, the Spinner Square Pop Up and some fun stamped images from Riley & Company.
I talk about some of the details for this card in my YouTube Video below, which can also be found on my YouTube Channel HERE.
Once I had decided to use the Pattern Plate Swirls, I die cut it twice from navy card stock. The Pattern Plate dies are designed to fill the entire front of an A2 card, but you can use them in several different ways! Here I cut them down and used pieces for focal elements as well as using them as a stencil with blending brushes and dye inks.
Inside, I used the Spinner Square Pop Up for the animation. I snipped apart the second Swirl die cut and added pieces into the two corners.
Both the Policeman Riley and the 'just saying...' were a fun choice of images to go with the sentiment on the card front, and I used one of the Swirl dies to add some light stencilling across the card as on the narrow rectangle. A small piece of one of the Swirls was snipped to fit behind Policeman Riley.
I hope you will check out what the rest of the Design Team has come up with using the Pattern Plates - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project and video on her blog tomorrow (Wednesday) HERE.

Hello my crafty friends It's Fun Fold Friday here on my blog, and I have a fun Halloween Card to share. I had actually been tidying up and putting away my Halloween papers when I spied the package of Doodlebug printed elements. I just had to make another Halloween card and chose to use Karen Burniston's Spinner Square Pop Up for the inside. There were some smaller scraps in the package which worked perfectly for this oval grid die, and the SPOOKY is one of those Doodlebug printed elements.
Here is quick YouTube video so you can see the card in action:
I added a couple of the YNS Gumdrops and my card front was done.
Inside I stencilled a spider web onto both sides of the card inside, then assembled and adhered the Spinner Square Mechanism. I decorated the inside with a few more printed Doodlebug elements and some stickers too!
As you could see in the YouTube video, I adhered the spider with a hand made wobble spring for some more spooky fun.
The front of the card is nice and sturdy because of the grid & mat layer, so I also added a white panel to the back of my card for balance. Note - I made my own Action Wobble inspired by Anne at Constantly Carding's YouTube Video, which you can see HERE. I tweaked her directions a little to make it work better for me but they are surprisingly easy to make! Welcome to Karen Burniston's October 2019 Designer Challenge! KB asked us to use either the Autumn Elements or the Word Set 7 Autumn for our project today so I made a humorous Thanksgiving card.
For my card front I used the Crosshatch Rectangles to die cut a pretty gold foil mat. Since the entire centre was going to be covered up with the rust panel though, I die cut a smaller Crosshatch Rectangle out of the centre to reserve for another project. No point in wasting specialty paper that nobody is going to see anyhow!
I have a short YouTube video so you can see what the card looks like as it opens and closes, with more pictures and a full supply list below the video.
I die cut the HAPPY from Word Set 7 Autumn eight times from an ink smooshed background, and adhered them - slightly staggered - onto a rust panel. The Thanksgiving word was die cut from a strip of the same gold foil card stock as the matt and layered onto a kraft strip. I LOVE the little acorn die (acorn and top) in the Autumn Elements set so I had to add a trio of them to the card front.
Can we just talk about these ink smooshed panels for a minute? I was SO happy with how they turned out. They just make my heart happy! I used regular white card stock from Office Depot - the same stuff I use for just about everything - and swiped one colour of Distress Oxide ink onto my glass mat. A quick spritz with a spray bottle of water then I smooshed my card stock panel into the ink puddle. I repeated the steps with 3 more panels since I rarely plan ahead I wasn't sure how many I might need for the card.
By the time I was finished with the 4th panel the first one was dry so then I repeated with a second colour etc. I used four colours in total and of course the panels were pretty warped when they were dry from all the water, smooshing, dipping and dragging. I splattered each of the panels with gold shimmer paint then put them under a heavy stack of paper overnight. The next morning I die cut the two for the inside with the Crosshatch Rectangles.
I coloured Hunting Riley with Chameleon Color Tone markers, so he was actually stamped on Neenah card stock as I'm finally remembering that alcohol markers bleed on the Office Depot stuff.
I have a scrap of card stock that was cut with the grass die from the Nature Edges set and I keep that with my stencils. I pulled it out and brushed some brown ink over a section of the card to create a ground for Riley. I cut the fence from the new Farm Edges and used a portion of that behind him as well.
This Funny Bones sentiment just cracks me up. I might have laughed and spit out my coffee the first time I read it online and of course had to add it to my shopping cart. Ha. To the spinner arm I added a pumpkin from the Autumn Elements and a plated turkey embellishment from my stash. Another little acorn was added to the corner of the stamped rectangle.
I didn't want to cover up any more of the pretty background, so didn't add a signing block. This is a card I'll be sending out so we can just sign our name with a black marker and it will show up just fine.
I hope you will check out what the rest of the Design Team came up with for the challenge - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project & video on her BLOG tomorrow (Wednesday) and you will find that HERE.

It's Fun Fold Friday here on my blog and I have a humorous card to share today. I think the new cow 'Bennie/Bessie' from Riley & Company is so much fun! Here I dressed her up with the Sophie's Dress Up images and the colouring was for Day 27 of the 30 day colouring challenge I'd been participating in on Instagram. It was fun getting her onto a card, and I chose Karen Burniston's Spinner Square Pop-Up for my card base today.
Once again I used the make up brushes to add colour to the background panel and thought I'd tell you more about them in case you are unfamiliar with these cheap 'Life Changing Blending Brushes'. My friend Betty told me about them when she was visiting us in Arizona in March. I was skeptical but knew she would not steer me wrong. I had not paid any attention to all the buzz about these brushes, simply because of the price. Upwards of $40 for a set of brushes when I already have brushes and sponges for stencils? Not for me, no matter HOW wonderful they are. Or so I thought, ha ha.
We each picked up the cheap set from Amazon down there and I was immediately hooked. I am using them almost daily now! At the end of my post I will add a link from Amazon.ca in case you are interested. If you are reading my blog from a different country than Canada you will know what to look for at least. All the US people have their own favourite shopping sites I'm sure.
When you open the card, the funny saying spins out from behind the cow panel.
I have a YouTube video so you can see the card in action:
This is not an affiliate link - I don't get a commission or any kind of compensation. But I am in love with the brushes and just wanted to share the information in case any of my Canadian peeps are interested. There are lots of tutorials online using the 'Life Changing Blending Brushes' where you can see why I like them so much.

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy4Challenges Blog. our March hostess is Frances Byrne and please welcome our Guest Designer Barb Anders - Paper Pursuits. I've long been a fan of Barb's creations!
Frances' challenge is:
April Fools day is right around the corner. For our challenge this week, create a card that has some sort of “trick” to it. It could be an interactive card of some sort or maybe an image that has some humor to it.
**I am also entering this card into the Fun Friday Challenge #110 at Your Next Stamp, which is to use Pastels. You can see all the details of the challenge here.**
I had a lot of fun making my card today. Both the dog stamps and the word stamp are new - I picked them up at the Mesa Rubber Stamp show earlier this month. I'm such a sucker for cute dog images and these ones have SO much character!
There is a framed window on the card front, where you see another dog peeking through and the first part of the greeting. This was actually a single stamp that I snipped in half. Stamp surgery isn't a bad thing folks!
Inside I used Karen Burniston's Spinner Square Pop-Up to animate the rest of the greeting. I like this stamp - because I do feel like that sometimes. People who don't have 'furry kids' will say to me 'it's JUST a dog' and I often don't say anything because whatever comes out of my mouth at that point would not be polite. Ha.
This guy ... this guy made me stop in my tracks and pick up the stamp set. Love him.
TIP: Add all of your embellishments BEFORE placing the greeting on the spinner. I had to re-do this one, and it took me as long to get it to work properly again as it did to assemble the entire card. It now spins in a different direction than I intended, but it was the only way I could make it work. It had been in the perfect location to read the words until I adhered the Dachshund - then you could no longer read the left half of the words. AACK. So it's not perfect, but the mechanism works just fine and you can finally read the greeting again.
I have a friend who feels the same way about dogs, so I thought of her while I was making this card and I am going to just pop it in the mail to her as a fun surprise. I hope it makes her smile.
Finally, for those that like to pin card fronts and insides together on your Pinterest boards ... here you go!

Welcome to a new year, a new month and a new challenge at the Crazy4Challenges Blog. I am the hostess for January 2019 and our Guest Designer is my friend and Design Teammate Kelly Booth.
I had fun thinking of the challenges for this month, making them generic enough that they would suit everyone. Here is my challenge for this week: What is your favourite card type to make? Pop-up? Shaker? Birthday? One Layer? Make one!
My favourite card type would be Interactive. But I also really enjoy making Birthday Cards and cards with Windows ... so I combined them all to make a masculine Birthday card.
The window has acetate behind the stitched frame, and I added a couple of sprigs from Karen Burniston's Autumn Elements. That die set stays close to my stamping table because I use it so often.
Sorry for the colour cast on the photo below, which shows the card as it is opening.
When the card is fully open, the leafy wreath and Happy Birthday sentiment spin down and fully into view. I used the Spinner Square Pop-Up by Karen Burniston for the mechanism.
The filigree owl was not my favourite of the stamp & die set when I saw it online, but now I am really liking it. It was die cut from brown card stock and adhered to kraft, then fussy cut. On the far right of the Spinner Square, I fussy cut the spinner rectangle to follow along the leaf lines on the wreath.
I made a coordinating Gift Card holder as well, using Lynda Kanase's Pop-Up Gift Card Holder.
I decorated the front with bakers twine and a few die cut leaves from the Autumn Elements with white sketchy lines drawn on with a gel pen.
The set has a die for the front and the Pop-Up inside and it goes together quick and easy. The gift card pictured is one I use for photos, and not the one we actually gifted.
When you remove the gift card, you see a stitched circle which is the fallaway piece from the card front window. I like that it visually ties the card to the Gift Card Holder.

Good morning friends It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy4Challenges Blog. It's also a new month, and our November hostess is Joanne Grzelak. Here is Joanne's challenge for this week:
"During the fall and spring seasons, leaves are all around us. In the fall they are falling, colorful, and becoming a carpet on the ground. In the spring, the new leaves are sprouting from the trees. Make a card in which the only images are leaves. It does not have to be in autumn colors."
I had just received this leaf background die and of course I had to do a test cut so grabbed this patterned paper that was close by. The die cut beautifully, and I set the piece aside for a week or so. Finally, I had an idea as to how to use it and this is the card I made.
I have said it before and I'm sure I will say it again and again, but I love Karen Burniston's new Autumn Elements! I die cut the maple leaf, sprig and acorn from gold and brown card stocks and adhered them to a black circle. I have this pretty copper trim from Stampin' Up, so pulled at it until it was open and airy, then adhered it behind the acorn for a little more shimmer and shine. The patterned paper has gold foiled bits on it as well so this is one shiny card!
Inside, I used the Spinner Square Pop-Up and some patterned paper/journal cards from my stash as well as some gold foil accented stickers.
The corn hides behind the Be Thankful rectangle and spins down and into view as the card is opened.
