C4C446 tent pop-up

Good morning friends

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy4Challenges Blog. Since it's a new month we also have a new Hostess and Guest Designer! Our August hostess is Anja de Regt, and our guest designer is Connie VanLoosen.

Anja's challenge this week is:  "The First of August is National Mountain Climbing Day. Not that I climb many real big mountains, but mountains are beautiful! So for this week the challenge is to put some mountains on your card/project."

I had purchased this (second hand) embossing folder and realized how perfect it was for the challenge, so pulled it out to use for my card. I've had the camping stamps for awhile so got those out as well. They were already coloured - I take stamped images with me when we go to the farm as there  is no TV or internet there. I love to sit at the farmhouse table and colour late in the evenings.

I couldn't resist adding a little peeking bear from Karen Burniston's Winter Animals, and the 'hello' from Word Set 6 Summer.

While the card was fine as it was, I decided to make it a Pop-Up!

I used the Tent Pop-Up, which is so fun. We live close to the Rocky Mountains and know A LOT of people camp in tents on those mountains.

I added three more bears, this time black bears, each holding a die cut letter to finish the sentiment "wishing you summer fun". While there isn't a Wishing die, I combined words from Word Set 2 Birthday for the 'wish' and Word Set 1 Greetings for the 'ing'. The words were die cut from black card stock then outlined with a white gel pen.

I added a couple of embellishments from the Camping Charms and also used the Crosshatch Squares as an area for our message.

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd  love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C446.

Karen Burniston's June 2018 Designer Challenge

Good morning friends

Welcome to Karen Burniston's June Designer Challenge - this month the challenge is:  "The Great Outdoors". The new release is shipping this week and the new Tent Pop-Up is going to be VERY popular. I wanted to use it for my challenge card but show you a different way you can use it.

I have had this camping/outdoors themed paper pack for a couple of years, so pulled it out and got to work. I like to keep the fronts of my cards fairly simple when all the fun is on the inside. I cut the banner from the Word Set 5 Royalty and adhered it over the puffy camper sticker to hide the words that were printed on it. Then I cut the 'enjoy' from the new Word Set 6 Summer from patterned paper and again from fun foam. Adhering them together gave the word lots of dimension.

Here is the little camping scene I created inside:

I had so much fun putting this together! I used the floating floor from the House & Fence Pop-Up and used just the front of the tent. The tent flaps were tied back with fine jute twine then I adhered a hand cut triangle behind the opening with foam tape for dimension. The treeline and hills were cut using the Nature Edges die set and I did a little paper piecing on the trees. Then I added some puffy star stickers to the sky.

To make the tall lantern, I used the stir stick from the Coffee Cup Pop-Up and adhered the smallest lantern from the Camping Charms to the top. I tied a little loop of fine jute twine through the loop at the top and let it hang loose. Then I cut three fish, inked and sparkled them, they strung them on another loop of the same jute.

Looks like the racoon and the hedgehog have been busy fishing, as they each have a fish to add with the others.

Finally, here is a side view so you see the pop-up and dimension a little better.

Tips and Tricks:
**For this card I used the squirrel belly on the fox. Don't be afraid to mix things up!
**The sign was fussy cut from a printed border on one of the sheets in the paper package.
**Unfortunately after opening and closing the card several times, the base of floating floor started to crack. Usually washi or micropore tape on the back side of the score line helps if your card stock/patterned paper is prone to cracking but the card was already assembled. So I carefully painted some gel medium along the folded edges but will make a point to double check for cracking before cutting a Pop-Up mechanism.. A lot of DCWV patterned papers crack, but I didn't think the We R Memory Keepers would also crack. Now I know!

I hope you will check out the rest of the Design Team posts  - their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project on HER BLOG tomorrow (Wednesday June 6) and she will also share the teams posts. It's always fun to see them grouped together in one post.

Sweet Summer Glamping Card... a Sneak Peek!

Good morning frirends

This is my first post today and I have to tell you I had a blast making this card. I'm happy that I can share it with you because we are now showing SNEAK PEEKS of Karen Burniston's newest release which will be shipping the first week of June! I used a bunch of the new dies on this card because you know that Karen Burniston's dies all work together.

First up is the Camping Charms, which are going to be so much fun. On my card front I used the largest Lantern (there are two) from the set and layered it on the new Cross Hatch Squares and Crosshatch Circles.

SO excited that KB has nesting shapes now ... and not just any nesting shape. There are Rectangles, Squares, Circles and Ovals ... and each set has a nesting combination of both straight edges with a nice embossed edge and straight edge with a decorative cross hatch. They are so well thought out, and different than the other nesting shapes that are out there. Be ready to see these used a LOT!

I also added the 'enjoy' from the new Word Set 6 - Summer. I added the crown because this is a GLAMPING card. Ha!

Look at all the fun going on inside. Yes, there is a new Tent Pop-Up. Of course I had to make it a little differently, so instead of using twine to tie the tent flaps closed I added flower brads. I liked how they matched the flowers on the patterned paper. I also added a flower to the top from the new Upsy Daisy Pop-Up, and strung two small lanterns from the Camping Charms on the tent strings.

Just wanted to show you that the tent collapses perfectly when the card is closed.

The Tent Pop-Up comes with the little tab to animate the included stump, so I added another one on the other side of the tent and just reversed the folds as Karen advised us would work. And I added a Princess who is roasting a marshmallow. What's a flowery tent and a Glamping card without a marshmallow roasting princess?

The campfire also pops up, which is a fun addition to the die set. I added some quick doodles on the rocks then die cut the letters from the NEW ALPHABET! Yes, there is now an alphabet that matches the previously released Numbers die set. Woot! You can see that I added a border inside each letter with a pink metallic gel pen.

Two more words from the Word Set 6 - Summer were added on the left.  This new word set has a combination of larger words and also ones in the same sweet font as the other sets. This allows perfect mixing across all the sets.

The Crosshatch Rectangles were used again as a place to sign our names.

Tips & Tricks
I ended up using a single piece of bakers twine for my threading, starting at the top left and going all the way through then back to the bottom left. You can also do it in two pieces. Karen Burniston will have an assembly video right on the product page when the dies are available for purchase (early June 2018).

The Princess's head does stick out a little from the top of the card. If you plan on duplicating this card, I'd suggest you move the right platform a little further to the front of the card.

I cut a second stump, then cut it into pieces to resemble the logs in the fire. The stump has a cool woodgrain embossing feature that worked well for the logs. I put them mostly at the back of the fire to fill it in.

I hope you enjoyed my card today, and that I've been able to show you how easy it is to customize a die set - not all camping cards need to be masculine or woodsy! Although I can't wait to make both.

**NOTE - this is my first card today. Karen Burniston's Design Team is doing a Blog Hop with the folks at Brutus Monroe, so my card for that will be posted tonight at 10pm MST. Be sure to check back as there will be a chance to win PRIZES!!!!
