60th Anniversary Card and Gift Card Holder

It's Fun Fold Friday here on my blog and today I'm sharing a card and gift card holder that a family member asked if I could make for them. I was happy to do so ... and since the couple celebrating their 60th Anniversary love to spend time in the Muskoka's this is what I came up with.

I used several different dies by Karen Burniston, including the Label Charm Pop Up for the card. The scenic paper was a good match but since it was a special occasion I also wanted some sparkle & shine. That came from the rainbow holographic cardstock.

I have had the Pop Up Gift Card Holder for several years and I still get a lot of use out of it. This time I turned it so the gift card slides in from the bottom and their personal message would be revealed when the gift card was removed.

Having been asked how many cards I make I thought it would be fun to keep track this year. Many of my posts include more than a single card or project and below is my tally.

Card Tally for 2023
January - 53 cards
February - 56 cards
March - 55 cards
April - 32 cards
May - 43 cards

September - 61 cards
October - 51 cards & 5 Tags
November so far - 36 cards

I decided to cancel the subscription that provided linked thumbnails to what products I used on my cards. It was costing me out of pocket each month, so I’m back to listing what I used with a few affiliate links included.

Rubber Boots and Tulips, Pop Up Card Duo (Paper Pumpkin Alternate Cards)

Back in February, I worked on an older Paper Pumpkin kit and used it up. I didn't start sharing the cards until May though, and have been sharing one each week. We are getting down to the end soon though! Here are a pair of cards made using Karen Burniston's Label Charm Pop Up in addition to the kit.

I also used this tulip patterned paper, which was part of a 'free with purchase' with Stampin' Up back in February. The boots and hearts on the card fronts came from the March 2020 Paper Pumpkin Kit "No Matter The Weather".

I stamped a different sentiment on each of the cards, and a few more blooms from the kit.

I love the dimension you get with this die and it's one I use a lot! Below is the top view ...

I'll be back next week with another alternate project with this kit.

Having been asked how many cards I make I thought it would be fun to keep track this year. Many of my posts include more than a single card or project and below is my tally.

Karen Burniston New Release Blog Hop

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products - KB Riley LLC February Release Blog Hop. The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 6 new dies. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!

GIVEAWAY:
To celebrate the release Karen Burniston and each of the Karen Burniston - KB Riley LLC Design Team members will be giving away a $25 Gift Certificate to some lucky person who comments on our blog posts, so make sure you join the hop and comment on everyone's blog post. Winners will be randomly chosen from ALL of the blog hop comments received on our blog posts by Monday, 27th February 2023. Lots of chances to win some goodies, so just leave a comment on this post or any other blog hop posts to enter! Don't forget to leave some way for us to contact you, in case you are a lucky winner!

For my card, I combined the new release with previously released items for an ocean themed card that is 5 x 7"***    All the dies used are linked below for you and later this morning I will post a quick video here so you can see the card in action.

I was excited to see that frame for the Label Charm Pop Up - it finishes off the front opening as well as gives you even more label sizes for layering.

I think my favourite of the new borders is the crab one ... they snip apart so easily that you can add little crabs wherever you want them. And that Jellyfish? ❤️

***NOTE:  I did use a larger die cutting machine but if your machine will only accept a 6" width you can always make your 5 x 7" card in two pieces. For that, the front would measure 5.5 x 7", scoring 1/2" down the left side. The back of your card would be 5 x 7". After die cutting, simply add adhesive down that 1/2" strip and adhere it to the back side of the back card panel!

Late last year I was asked how many cards I make but I didn't have a clear number. Since many of my posts include more than a single card or project, I thought it would be fun to keep track this year.

Card Tally for 2023
January - 53 cards
February so far - 45 cards

Additional Supplies:
Patterned paper - Mermaid Tails, Kaisercraft
5 x 7" card blank and envelope
White cardstock
Black & green fine point markers
Grey alcohol marker

'Wet Your Plants' Birthday Card

Earlier this week I shared a post with plant themed cards. While I had the pad out, I pulled this sheet out to make a card and used Karen Burniston's Label Charm Pop Up and Garden Charms. To make the most of the large pattern on the 12 x 12" sheet, my card is an A7 size (5 x 7").  With the Label Charm Pop Up, the design on the front label pivots to the inside when the card is opened.

Lawn Fawns Giant Happy Birthday was die cut from a brown patterned sheet in the same package as well as a dark green cardstock. Then I offset them slightly for a shadow look and adhered it to the front of the card. Two squares of the same brown print were sliced on the diagonal and adhered to each corner on the card front.

I love how the watering can dangles inside the opening. I used a jump ring to attach the charm, but you could also use twine or thread.

I have been asked how many cards I make but I didn't have a clear number. Since many of my posts include more than a single card or project, I thought it would be fun to keep track this year.
2023 Tally:  36 Cards

Additional Supplies:
Patterned paper - Farmhouse, Craftsmart (Michaels?)
White cardstock
Water colour markers
Brass Jumpring
Alcohol Markers
Green cardstock

Cake & Balloons Birthday Card

Today I'm sharing the card I made for my Mother-in-law who celebrated a Birthday last month. Normally my cards start out with the patterned paper, but this one started with the decorative elements! Pinkfresh Studio had come out with a new release that included these beautiful balloons/cakes etc. My heart went pitter patter - I love balloons!  Of course, there is an entire collection - along with the Washi Tape, there is a die to cut out an entire repeat with a single pass through your die cutter, a stamp that stamps the whole repeat and layering stencils. Whew.

I added them to my online cart. I emptied the cart. I added them to my cart. I emptied them. Multiple times. The issue was all me - I have been doing really good at stemming the flow of new crafty goodies into my craft room. Finally I realized I didn't need to buy it all. It was the Washi Tape that I loved so that is what I ended up buying. Just a single roll of the Washi Tape. It felt so good!

Over several evenings I added the Washi Tape to white cardstock panels, then fussy cut a few of the repeats so the elements would be ready for card making. The die would have made this process go faster and it's still tempting to go ahead and buy it. But so far I'm holding firm. 😳 I just adore the Washi Tape from Pinkfresh Studios - especially the ones with gold foil highlights.

I chose the Label Charm Pop up die set by Karen Burniston for the card base, and added gold foiled sentiments, sequins and gold Glitter Dots.

The element on the front label pivots to the inside as the card opens. I love her Circle Charm Pop Up so was really happy when she came out with this one.

When I was adding the Washi Tape to cardstock, I added a few repeats to vellum so they are nice and sheer - just like a real balloon. ❤️

This card folds completely flat and mailed for a single stamp.

I am going to include a running tally on how many cards I make this year, not counting the ones I don't share on my blog.  I donate 25 Birthday Cards each month to my Mom's old nursing home and don't often take photos or post the majority of those. A couple of times recently, I was asked how many cards I make but I didn't have a clear number. Since a lot of my posts include more than a single card or project, I thought it would be fun to keep track this year.
2023 Tally so far: 16 Cards

Additional Supplies:
Wide A2 card (5.5 x 4.25")
White cardstock
Sequins - stash
Patterned paper - Blank Canvas, First Edition Papers (old, from my stash)

Colourful Pop Up Dog Card

Hello my crafty friends. Three months ago we adopted a sweet rescue dog who is quite a picky eater. Considering she started her life on the streets in Thailand, this came as a surprise and a hurdle. She was underweight not because the foster family wasn't feeding her enough - it was because she is just not that interested in eating. Go figure!  My friend Debbie has given me some great tips though, and Willow eats most of her food by the end of the day.

I wanted to send Debbie a thank you card, so pulled out the new Label Charm Pop Up by Karen Burniston and my new Grace & Lucy Puppy stamps from Picket Fence Studio's. This is the card I came up with, turning the orientation of the Label Charm to be a top fold card and adding a large circle with a hand made tab instead of the second label as it's designed. I have those details in my YouTube video:

Below is what the card looks like opened ...

... and a side view. I stencilled the paw prints using a YNS stencil and blending brushes, but had a few issues with the stencil moving around. Should have taken the time to tape it in place, but in the end I was ok with the random look of the colourful paw prints & hearts.

The large ink blended circle is where I wrote my personal message then sent this card on it's way.

Rosh Hashanah Card

Hello my crafty friends. Today I'm sharing another card using both NEW DIES and previously released dies by Karen Burniston. I am loving the new Label Charm Pop Up and chose that for this Rosh Hashana card (Jewish New Year). I have all the details of my card on YouTube:

Since Honey is a prevalent symbol of the occasion, I also have the honeycomb and bees from the Flutter Charms set and lots of gold for shimmer & shine.

Here is a peek at the inside, where I used the. Mini Alpha and Shadows for the sentiment. The paper is a digital download I purchased from Etsy and printed on regular printer paper.

Trimming the You're off of the You're Sweet helped create the sentiment which was added to one of the Short Crosshatch Rectangle dies. This card is 5 x 6" (folded) and will fit in a standard 5 x 7" envelope for mailing.

Karen Burniston August Release Blog Hop

Hello my crafty friends!

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products - KB Riley LLC September Release Blog Hop. The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 13 new dies. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!
This release includes:
  • 1 new charm die set
  • 1 new word set
  • 1 new Halloween die set
  • 2 new Halloween Pattern Plates
  • 2 new pop-up die sets
  • 2 new pop-up extra sets to coordinate with one of the new die sets
  • 1 new "Ball" Add-ons set
  • 3 new "Ball" Double-Ups Sets

I used three of the new dies along with some earlier releases for this shimmery Halloween Card. Here is what the card looks like when it comes out of the envelope:

Since it's more fun to see these cards in action, I have a walkthrough on YouTube:

The shimmer & shine is from the Rainbow Holographic card stock. I just adore the new Skeleton and Bat, so had to use them for my card today. The card base uses the new Label Charm Pop Up and the bat on the front pivots to the inside as the card is opened.

Below is what the card looks like opened. The patterned paper is from Doodlebug and I've had it a couple of years. I did link some other Doodlebug papers (that I also have) but I'm not able to link this one. I love it - the purple stars are felted!

Cutting the Spider Slim Pattern Plate from the same holographic card stock, I snipped the sides off to give me the border on each side of the card. Then I cut different webs and spiders away from the leftover piece to add them as elements on the inside and front of the card.

I always like to show the top view of this type of card, since when I give them to people they invariably turn it so they can see it from the top. 😊

Sunflowers & Butterflies - Karen Burniston's New Release First Sneak Peek

Hello my crafty friends. Today is the day ... the Design Team can start to share sneak peaks of Karen Burniston's upcoming release. I have long been a fan of her Circle Charm Pop Up so I was pretty happy to see this new Label Charm Pop Up in the new release and of course it was the first sneak peek I wanted to share.

My card is larger than A2, it's 5 x 6.5" and fits in a 5 x 7" envelope for mailing. And it folds down nice and flat too. The sentiments are also part of the new release, with the Just and coordinating shadow does as well as supporting sentiments. Here is a look at the whole release:

Here is the inside of my card ...

Once again I'm playing with that lovely sunflower patterned paper - it's a 6 x 6" pad that I have been getting a LOT of use out of. The butterflies were stamped onto vellum and white heat embossed then die cut - it's a die from Pinkfresh Studio although there are some sweet butterflies on Karen Burniston's website that would also work beautifully. I just happened to have these ones sitting on my stamping table.

The shadow and words 'saying hi' were die cut from a gold pearlized card stock for a little shimmer and shine. I added Wink of Stella and gold Stickles for even more shine. I can't link the cardstock but I did find others that would work just as well.

Here is the top view ...

One more look ...

The Design Team will be sharing Sneak Peeks all week! The release goes live on Monday September 5th and there will be a blog hop with lots of inspiration and prizes too.
