Party Cat Pop-Up Birthday Card

It's Fun Fold Friday here on my blog and today I'm sharing the Pop-Up card I made for a friend's birthday. She is a cat lover, so I pulled out this 'Be A Cat' die from Waffle Flower then went rooting around in my older patterned papers to decide what I wanted to use.

I added a die cut party hat to the cat and had her 'holding' onto the stitched rectangle with a stamped Happy Birthday. I really had fun making this one!

Inside I used Karen Burniston's Postage Pop Up die set, which has a completely generic mechanism. My favourite kind! Instead of the included postage themed dies, I added a stamped & die cut circle to the mechanism.

Cactus Birthday Peek A Boo Card

Today is Masculine Card Monday here on my blog and I'm sharing the one and only 'Peek-A-Boo' card I'll ever make. While I was very happy with how the card turned out, when I showed hubby and he couldn't open it properly TWICE I started having doubts about it. Apparently you have to hold these cards 'just so' or they don't slide properly. I don't want to have to send directions with a card - people should be able to open a card on their own, without instruction. I would be hand delivering this one, so I could walk our SIL through the process, but I found that very frustrating.

While this is not a new idea, nor is it Jennifer McGuire's - she did post a video late last year with a great tutorial and very concise measurements and directions. I used her video to create the card. Then when it all sorta came apart when hubby tried to open it I went back to YouTube and used Glenda Cairns** idea of adding a sliding belly band. Works much slicker, but our son-in-law wasn't able to open it without my input so this style of card is definitely a fail in my book. 

This is the front of the card, and you can see the cactus and 'happy birthday' through the window.

When you open the card, a panel slides over the first image in the window and reveals a second image. For this card, it was a different potted cactus with the words 'looking' sharp!'.

Below you can see the second panel sliding over the first. This card works really well IF YOU HOLD IT PROPERLY, but otherwise the layers separate easily and the recipient could be left with something he/she has no idea how to reassemble.

Below you can see Glenda's belly band idea and if nothing else, it holds all the layers together so it doesn't all come apart. It was a great fix for that.

Birthday Cupcake Card Trio

Hello my crafty friends

Today I'm sharing a trio of Cupcake cards that I made to donate to my Mom's nursing home. I used a Fold-It's die for the cupcake, but instead of making a folding shaped card I added the cupcake to sparkly card bases.

The circles were each inlaid with the fall away pieces from the other cards and I added some glitter glue too.

Easter Week Card #5 (Cheerful Chick Flip-It Card)

Welcome to EASTER WEEK here on my blog!

Last year I had a lot of fun making Easter cards. I had purchased a couple of new stamp sets from Your Next Stamp, and I got going and made more cards than I needed to send out. I've hung onto these photos since last March and decided to have an "Easter Week" here on my blog and post one of the cards I made each day this week. Today is Day Five!

 Since today is also Fun Fold Friday, today's share uses a retired Flip-Its die set ... just because something is retired doesn't mean it can't still be used!

The cute stamps are by Your Next Stamp - and I used them a lot on my cards this week. Also some cheery patterned paper from my stash that I've had for a couple of years.

Hanging Planter Flip Fold Card

Today I'm sharing a card I'm entering into the latest challenge at The Male Room Challenge Blog. Challenge #106 "Gorgeous Greens". You can see all the details HERE.

I wanted to use my new hanging planter die again, so this time I added it to a Flip Fold card. This type of card goes by several different names - Flip-It, Flip Fold, Flip, Flip Flop depending on the manufacturer.

The plant hanger was cut from silver matte foil card stock. I added some narrow washi tape down the right side for some more shimmer 'n' shine. I cut the plant twice, once from woodgrain card stock and once from green. Then they were layered together after I did a little highlighting with Distress Oxide inks and a water brush on the plant.

Even though this is a masculine card, I had the perfect word stamp to send this card to my Mom. I'm sending a card to her each week so she knows I'm thinking about her. She loves to receive Happy Mail!

Designer Challenge Waterfall Anniversary Card

Welcome to Karen Burniston's March 2019 Designer Challenge! The theme is:  "TINY ACCESSORIES" - take your cue from any of the outfits included in Tiny Accessories 1 or Tiny Accessories 2 for a card of any theme. Incorporate an animal or get creative with using the accessories on other items, like eggs, trees, flowers. Accessorize!"

I chose to make another Waterfall Card, using Karen Burniston's adaptation of the Frame Pull Pop-Up die set. I will link her assembly video at the end of my post.

The first panel has a bow tie and necklace, and starts with the words 'Side by Side'. When you pull the tab downwards, this panel flips up to reveal the second sentiment.

This one says 'Love isn't in the falling...'. In addition to the bow tie and necklace, now there is also both a top hat and pillbox hat. Pull the tab downwards once more and this panel flips up to reveal a third panel.

This third panel completes the saying on the previous one with '...it's in the staying there'. I also added a few more accessories! The dashing cape, a pair of glasses and a handbag. Pull the tab downwards and that panel flips up to reveal the final panel.

This one shows a pair of owls wearing all the accessories from the previous panels! I also added a banner that says 'Happy Anniversary'.

For the masculine owl, I chose to use the beak and feet from the Chick in the Spring Animals so he looks different from the lady owl.

Here is a side view so you can see the waterfall effect. I love Karen Burniston's adaptation of the Frame Pull Pop-Up!

I like to make my Waterfall Cards flat, post-card style. While I decorate the back I keep everything nice and flat so the card will display nicely. We can write our note and sign on names on the white area.

I combined Crosshatch Rectangles, Border Blends Party, and a stamped fish tail banner on the back of this card. This is an anniversary card for our eldest daughter & hubby, and we will be hand delivering it. I think I will add it into a clear cello envelope!

C4C473 Coffee Themed Pop-Up Card

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy4Challenges Blog. It's a new month, our March hostess is Frances Byrne and please welcome our Guest Designer Barb Anders - Paper Pursuits. I've long been a fan of Barb's creations!

Frances' challenge is: March is Caffeine Awareness Month, so for our challenge this month create a Coffee themed card.

I enjoy making coffee cards, so I pulled out some of my (retired) Verve stamps and the Rockin' Rectangle Pop-Up die set by Karen Burniston. The front says "Happiness is ...".

As the card is opening, you see the cup of coffee and the words "... A Huge Cup of Coffee..."

As you continue to open the card, this rectangle rocks up and to the side and reveals the second sentiment "... and a teensy bit of silence."  I thought this might be a fun card to send to one of our daughters as both like coffee AND with young kids silence is a rare thing. Whichever I send it to will get a kick out of the card.

Donut Fold-a-Long Birthday Card

One of my Black Friday purchases was this fun Donut Fold-a-Long die set. For my first card using it, I used the included donut accessory dies and added some sequins for the sprinkles. I've had this card finished since November, but am just getting to post it now.

I punched two banners from the donut printed paper and adhered them over the notches to hold the inside circle in place. The 'Sweet' die is another one that comes with the die set. I wrote 'birthday wishes' on a fishtail banner to complete the sentiment and added some more sequins.

This one went into my stash. I have some other ideas for this die as well, which is the main reason I purchased it.

Eight 'Happy Birthday' Cards

Today I'm sharing Birthday Cards that I made to donate to my Mom's Nursing Home. I picked up this die set last year so pulled it out again and worked on these cards off and on for several days. Since they are similar, I'm posting them all together.

The first group have a black card base, and the red checked paper is embossed and sparkly. I added a kraft panel in behind the words - I love kraft and red together.

The greeting was stamped on a crosshatch circle so it would pop from the background.

Then I pulled out an older 6 x 6" paper pad and made a good dent in it with these next five cards.

I added a stamped and fussy cut party hat to some of the card fronts, and outlined the letters with a black marker on some as well.

I usually have several large lunch bags on the go for my donation cards, so I added two of these into each of the bags. That way the residents don't open a bunch of similar cards at the same birthday party.

Way To Go - Rockin' Rectangle Pop-Up Card

Today I'm sharing a card I made to send to our daughter, who graduated her Herbal Immersion program. She put in over 1000 hours of study and a couple of years of hard work, all while raising our three young grandkids and dealing with Olivia's disease (PH) etc. She is nothing short of amazing.

I used several favourite items to make this card: The pretty patterned paper by Lynda Kanase, which is sadly discontinued. The Sprig Punch from Stampin' Up is so perfect for just a little somethin' somethin'. The stitched fishtail banners from MFT Stamps. All favourites and items I love to use. The Rockin' Rectangle die set is from Karen Burniston's newest release and it is a really fun pop-up and sure to become a favourite as well. And the hanging planter die is one of my new Sizzix purchases and I was SO excited about it!

I chose to add a window to my card front, so you get a peek at the hanging plant basket through the acetate. The words are from Karen Burniston's latest release as well. They work well for graduation cards but also for other accomplishments.

When you open the card, the hanging basket panel rocks up and out to reveal the 'you did it!' message.

I glued down a couple of sprig branches at the lower right of the inside corner, but they do catch the scalloped rectangle. They were glued down well though and there was no getting them off so I had to go with it. So be sure you check for catch points BEFORE glueing anything down!

I die cut the plant twice, once from green card stock and once from woodgrain paper. Then I added additional colour to the plant with Distress Oxide inks and a water brush. The plant hanger itself was cut from silver mirror matte card stock so it catches the light.
