Stepped Up Sheetload Cards

Alicia at 'Call Me Crafty Al' releases a new Sheetload of Cards (Sketch and Cutting Guide) on the 1st of each month, and you can pretty much bet that on the 1st I'm in my craft room cutting down papers. This month was no exception, and as usual I finished my panels and had them ready to attach to card bases. 

At that point I had the idea to step up the cards AND do a video tutorial for them. Which was all well and good, but when I was finished the video was over 45 minutes long. After an additional 90+ minutes of editing I wasn't even half finished so I threw in the towel. I just don't have the time or energy to spend over 3 hours editing a video, then another hour to preview the video and get it uploaded, as well as getting the blog post written. So ... no tutorial ... although I haven't deleted the video in case I end up having lots of free time between now and Christmas. 😂

I added narrow gold foil tape to my panels for some holiday shine, and instead of a vellum circle element I used the 3 x 3" cut aparts that were in the paper pad. So in addition to the four sheets of 6 x 6" paper that the Sheetload called for, I used up an additional two with the cut aparts AND additional sheets for the layers and insides. Yeah!

The easiest way to step up the inside of your cards is simply to add a printed paper panel. That is what I did for the first two, adding a smaller white panel to the inside with a stamped sentiment.

For the next two cards I added the panels to white card bases but did a simple box pop up inside. The 3 x 4" cut aparts were also in the paper pad so I got to use them up as well. I do have video tutorials on creating simple box pop ups and HERE is one of them. The pop up box measured 5 x 1", scored .5,  2.5  and 3".

Of course I had to make a pair of Z Fold cards - my favourite type of fun fold. I haven't done them with such a large front element before but I was happy with how they turned out.

The final two cards are Faux Step cards. Again, I wouldn't normally use such a large element as it doesn't leave much room to add other elements onto the 'steps' but they still turned out cute. They also stand beautifully for display!

 

With all the dilly dallying around with the video, I'm quite late sharing my November Sheetload cards ... but at least I'm getting them shared in the same month!

Masculine Faux Step Birthday Card

Welcome to Masculine Card Monday here on my blog! Today I'm sharing the birthday card made for our son, who enjoys fishing & camping. I actually made this card back in early summer but didn't want to share it until after his birthday.

After making hubby's Father's Day card I had a number of cut-aparts leftover. I pulled out these two to use on our son's card (and a third one ended up on his Gift Card Holder but no pics of that) then pulled out this older patterned paper package by Echo Park. The package has papers and stickers and I used both on the card.

This one is another Faux Step card and I quite like making this type of fun fold. They are very easy to customize for size - this one is a 7 x 5" card, but I have also done a Mini Slimline version and there are tons of tutorials online for an A2 sized card. I will list the measurements I used at the end of my post.

When I made the Father's Day card, I mentioned an accordion folded strip that really helped to keep the card from collapsing. I have a thing about sturdy cards, and having them stand for display. Having received Step Cards in the past I noticed after a short time on my sofa table they started to sink down. That is part of the reason I never made them or purchased a Step Card die set. That doesn't happen with these Faux Step cards, especially with the accordion piece added between the largest folds.

No tutorial, but here are a couple of photos showing placement.

Below are the measurements I used if you are wanting to try it. There are lots of Faux Step Card tutorials on YouTube as well.

NOTE: I added an accordion fold cardstock strip, between the centre and back pieces and right along the bottom edge in the centre. See photos for placement.

Card Base - 9 x 7 scored at 1.5, 3 and 6. Use the above photo as reference for the mountain and valley folds.

Folded Top Piece -  10 x 4" scored at 5". This can be adjusted depending on how tall you and/or wide you want it to be.

Accordion folded brace inside - 4 x 1", scored at 1, 2 and 3" 

White cardstock for personal message on back -  6.75 x 2.75"

Fathers Day Faux Step Card

Welcome to Masculine Card Monday here on my blog! We had been on a 5 week, cross Canada camping trip and I didn't have time to make many cards before we left. So the only Father's Day card I managed was for my hubby! First time I haven't made one for our Son-In-Laws, and I felt just awful about it. But they know we love and appreciate them so I had to let it go. I may have to work on some special ones for them to have ready in case things get busy next June too.

As usual, this card started with the patterned paper. Both the background paper (Stampin' Up) and the cut apart (a 12 x 12" sheet of them). Because I knew I was using that SW themed cut apart, I adjusted the top folding piece to fit it. These cards are very easy to customize!

On the back side, I added a die cut Happy Father's Day (Karen Burniston) and some stamped cactus imagery (Stampin' Up). He really liked the card, and kept it to display when we returned home last month.

Obviously, I didn't have time to do a tutorial, but below are the measurements I used if you are wanting to try it. There are lots of Faux Step Card tutorials on YouTube, so I'm not sure if I will end up doing one at all.  

NOTE: For this one I did add an accordion folded cardstock strip, between the centre and back pieces and right along the bottom edge in the centre. For some reason I didn't take a photo.  😳  I WILL do that when I make the next one because it really adds to the stability of the card.

Wintery Faux Step Mini Slimline Card

Today I'm sharing the 6th edition to my monthly series "12 Months of Christmas". Last month I created a 5 x 7" Faux Step Card and I liked it so much I wanted to try a Mini Slimline version. I really like this one too and hope to do a tutorial for it over the summer. 

I pulled out the Magic of Winter package from Echo Park - I used it a LOT last year and still have many bits leftover for even more cards. Since I wanted to feature one of the cutaparts from the package, my measurements are a little different than they would be for a 'regular' Faux Step Mini Slimline card. I didn't even really take note of the measurements for this one - it was a 'let's see if this works' type of card.

Since I used double sided patterned paper for the accordion base, the penguins on the back were upside down. I cut a same sized piece as the back panel and added it so the penguins would be right side up on the back of the card. 😊

The sentiment is a Funnybones stamp from Riley & Company, and even though it's JUNE, I'm already tired of winter. HA - that should tell you how much I dislike winter and being cold.

Faux Step Mother's Day Card

I have wanted to try one of these faux step cards for AGES, so I created a 5 x 7" version. This one was sent to my Mother In Law for Mother's Day and is the 5th edition to my monthly series "New Fun Folds". 

One of the reasons I was intrigued by this faux version ... and the reason I never invested in a step card die set (or side step as they are sometimes called), is that the cards usually collapse and don't display nicely for very long. This faux version seemed to be a good way to ensure that didn't happen, and it does work a lot better. 

Since I was happy with how sturdy they are I decided to make another one (to be shared another day) but I added the sentiment panel to the back side and added an accordion strip inside that holds the card upright. That, to me, was the perfect solution - and now I will be making more of this type of card.

I have had this patterned paper pad for many years - it has embossed shiny bits on it and is so pretty! Adding Karen Burniston's Happy Mother's Day, some stitched foliage and butterflies cut with rainbow holographic cardstock gives the card even more shine.

Inside I added a matted sentiment panel with a stamped sentiment and another little butterfly.

I didn't have a chance to do a tutorial, but below are my measurements.

Card base - 9 x 7", scored down the 9" side at  1.5", 3" and 6"

Patterned paper - 6.75 x 2.75"

Top folded piece - 10 x 4", scored at 5"

Refer to the photos for what the folding & placement looks like. If you are unsure use some older paper or cardstock to make a prototype! I will try to do a tutorial but it won't be until summertime.

Disney Themed Step/Block Card

Today I'm sharing the March edition to my series "Throwback Fun Fold dies". This is a birthday card for a 5 year old who celebrated her twin sisters birthday in Disneyland. I pulled out this old step/block card die from Spellbinders and the same patterned paper I used for the twins cards shared earlier this month.

Using a Lawn Fawn alphabet die set, I added her name to the blocks inside the card.

I added a panel to the back with a stamped sentiment and room to sign our names. I also added a number of mirrored heart sequins for lots of shimmer and shine.

Southwest Themed Birthday Step Card

Hello my crafty friends

When I was flipping through a SW themed paper stack, I noticed a sheet with these decorated tags. So I pulled out my Step Card die set and decided to fussy cut the tags to use as embellishments on a Step Card. The succulent was also fussy cut from a paper scrap in the stack and adhered onto a pair of layered circles then onto a second tag.

There is gold foiling on the elements for a nice touch. I white embossed the Birthday Wishes onto the Washi Tape Sentiment die strip (both from Your Next Stamp) and added it over one of the tags with foam tape.

The words from the YNS Photo Booth die set were perfect for the steps!

Since there isn't a lot of room on the card front for signing, I added an inked wavy circle to the top back.

Llama Step Birthday Card

Hello my crafty friends

Since I haven't played with this Step Card die set in awhile, I pulled it out to make a Birthday Card for Fun Fold Friday here on my blog. I added some punched balloons and this cute Llama from the Stamps of Life.

I added borders down each side, using one of Karen Burniston's new Border Blends - the Argyle one. I love that with a single pass through your die cutting machine, you can get multiple borders by using the negative spaces.

I wrote a message on the steps and put this card into one of the bags of cards I will be donating to my Mom's nursing home.

Kraft Step Card for Christmas

Good morning friends

I found these card photos in my files and since this card hasn't been shared on my blog yet I'm sharing it today. It was made a couple of years ago and the photos are still water marked with my old blog!

This Step Card die is one I don't use very often, and the only reason I can think of is that I keep forgetting about it. I will have to get it out again soon.

The patterned paper has fun foiled accents and I am always a fan of kraft.

The card folds flat for mailing in an A2 envelope!

Because I made this card so long ago, I no longer have a supply list. The 'be jolly' is by Lawn Fawn, and the Step die is by Spellbinders. Patterned paper is from Recollections and I believe the snowflake is a punch from my stash.

Check back later this morning when I will have a second holiday project share this time using brand new dies.

Foxy Birthday Step-Card Duo

Good morning friends

Today I'd like to share two Birthday cards I made to donate to Seniors Secret Service. Both cards have a similar layout, with just the embellishments slightly different. This is what the card looks like when it's closed and ready to go into the envelope.

The fox was stamped and fussy cut, as was the hat. I added a black glaze pen to the fox's eyes & nose, and some glitter to the party hat.

Here is the card open. I added a different stamped hat on each of the centre steps.

The circle that the fox is on, is mounted to the card front with an Action Wobble. I'm thinking the senior's might like watching it bob around.

Below is the second card. Amazing how swapping out the patterned paper completely changes the look!

This time I added some hand lettering, doodles as well as a punched banner on the front edge of each step.
