"Mod Valentine' - Pop Up Mini Slimline Card

Hello my crafty friends and welcome to Karen Burniston's February 2022 Designer Challenge. She challenged the Design Team with  {'"MOD VALENTINES" - make a Valentines or Love-themed card WITHOUT using red or pink as the primary colors. Think blues, greens, oranges, yellows, browns, purples, grays, black and white, etc.}.

Ahahaha - I added ALL the colours and have a walkthrough on YouTube:

The cute little shaker on the card front was created by nesting two of the hearts from the new Heart Collage Pop Up to make a window, then I just proceeded as usual with acetate and foam tape. Then the little shaker was added to a heart from the new Hearts Crosshatch. The words on the front and inside are from Word Set 14 Hugs.

The heart border on the inside top and bottom is washi tape from Doodlebug Designs. Since apparently there weren't quite enough hearts on this card - I added more with the little Rainbow Hearts embellishments also from Doodlebug. I like the subtle shine they give the card.

What I learned when making this card, is that I should have waited for good light when choosing the colours. I just went through my scrap bin and the orange I used is completely 'off'. Which I didn't realize until I looked at the fully assembled card the next morning. What to do? I didn't want to toss it and start again (although maybe I should have 😂). Finally, I CAREFULLY painted each of the orange hearts with diluted Sauna Catherine Pooler ink to tone it down just a little. I think without that gaudy orange I would have liked the card better.

I decided to go ahead and share it - I'm sure the rainbow of hearts will inspire some of you and I know just who I'm sending this to and they will be forgiving. Next I need to find the right shade of orange card stock. Nice how I can turn things around into a shopping opportunity, right? Ha.

Notes:
  • I used #110 card stock for the card base, as I knew it would need to support the weight of all of those hearts.
  • I reinforced the arms on the mechanism with narrow strips of the same heavyweight card stock for even more stability.
  • To prevent lifting, I added glue to each end of the Washi Tape.
