Valentine Star Card

Good morning friends

I noticed that Sizzix has come out with several new 'Star Card' dies, with different shapes in the centre. I remembered that a few years ago one of the Design Team (Frances Byrne, I believe) came up with a way to make these using the Accordion die. I was inspired to try it with Karen Burniston's new Fancy Frame Accordion and it worked like a charm.

You cut four Fancy Frame Accordions from your choice of card stock or patterned paper, snip away the inside accordion label area, and fold each frame in half. The idea is you adhere the one half side to the half side of the one that will be behind it. It's easier to do it than describe it, so I'll stop there.

Before adhering the final frame, I die cut two stitched hearts and sandwiched a length of Bakers Twine up the centre. Then I attached the bakers twine inside the fold with strong adhesive and added the final frame to cover up the ends.

All that was left was to decorate, which I did with a doily and a couple of Cut-Aparts from a Valentine Paper Stack. I also added a couple of flourishes from the Charm Accordion and die cut a bird from the same teal card stock.

The Fancy Frame Accordion is actually a re-release of a previous licensed design, but this set has a few different decorator die pieces.

I have a couple more Valentine cards to share later today, so I'll be back with another post in a few hours.

Good morning friends

I have a Gatefold Valentine card to share today. Since I really do enjoy making Gatefold cards, I had purchased this die set and wanted to see if it would work for Valentine's Day.

The flower embellishment is called a "Flip & Fold".  It's quite pretty!

Here is a peek at the inside:

It's Good To Be "U", Designer Challenge Card.

Good morning friends

Welcome to Karen Burniston's February 2018 Designer Challenge! This month our theme is "CASTLE" - use the new Castle Pop-up for a card of any theme. Will it be a fairy princess castle? A sand castle? The Eyrie? You decide!

Below is the front of my card. I trimmed a foiled journal card from the paper stack, and mounted it to the front of my card along with a panel of patterned paper. The "It's Good To Be" banner is from the new WORD SET 5 ROYALTY. There are several different word options you can insert inside the banner when you cut it, and here I've used the 'It's Good To Be' one.   The crab is from the new SEA ANIMALS set, and he is holding the letter "U".

The "U" was trimmed away from the word QUEEN, which is also included in the Word Set 5 Royalty set.

Inside I have an underwater castle scene!

This will be for our Grandson's birthday, so I added a '6' and the 'th' from the new NUMBERS set. I like that you can personalize a Pop-Up with these cool numbers. And I cannot, CANNOT believe that Ethan is going to be six!

Below is another view of my underwater scene. I added the cute Sea Turtle and Crab from the SEA ANIMALS die set, more of the WORD SET 5 ROYALTY words, the CASTLE from the Castle Pop-Up, the HAPPY BIRTHDAY (yes, again. I love this die!), and everything is adhered to the Floating Floor from the House & Fence die set.

I used the PRINCESS & MERMAID die set, to create a Merman with a few snips of my scissors. He has a crown (because he IS a King, you know), and a Sword from the Tiny Accessories 1 set. I also added a gold crown and seashell above the word 'Day'.

I like how the SEA TURTLE and CRAB look like they are floating in behind the castle wall.

There is lots of dimension to this card, but I wasn't worried about how thick it was since I will be giving it to the Birthday Boy in person. I also want to point out that the castle top does stick out from the bottom a little. I'm fine with it, Ethan won't notice and the card will be displayed open so it isn't an issue. But if I wanted to be sure it was entirely hidden when using the Floating Floor base, I would make the finished card 5-3/4" or 6" deep. This one is 5-1/2" deep.

I hope you will check out what the rest of the Design Team has come up with for the challenge - this CASTLE POP-UP die set is really something! Their blogs are linked on the right. Karen Burniston will have her project tomorrow (Wednesday) on her blog.

Supplies:
Patterned paper - Craft Smith
Champagne foil card stock - Stampin' Up
Twine
Teal, navy, kraft and oatmeal card stocks

Mini Valentine Cards for the Grandkids

Good morning friends

I thought I would try something different for the Valentine cards my Mom will give the Great Grandkids this year. Since Stampin' Up has those cute envelopes for 3 x 3" mini cards, I made them each a 3 x 3" card. They still get to open an envelope with their names on them but the card's petite size means they can carry them around easier.

Card #1 has one of Karen Burniston's sweet animals - the dog from he Cat and Dog set. These little critters are so easy peasy to put together! I used all scraps from this cute paper pad, cutting apart the words from other sheets in the stack.

Ethan's  Valentine has a cut-apart, a little bear with tiny wiggly eyes and the word You from Word Set 1 Greetings.

For Zachary's card, I used Riley the Moose. Specifically, Dress Up Riley - wearing a shirt. He is not wearing any pants, because Zachary HATES to wear pants. So this customized Valentine is perfect and Zachary will get a big kick out of it.

Riley is so cute! I added black glaze pen highlights to his eyes so they are nice and shiny.

For little Alma's card, I used another cut-apart, and since it said 'love bug' I added a die cut ladybug.

Finally, here is another Riley, this time he is wearing pants. This card will go to Ilai, who has no problem with wearing pants. :-)

The little hearts on Riley are from the Dog and Cat die set.

Supplies:
White, pink and orange card stocks
Patterned paper - DCWV
Stitched circle die - MFT Stamps
Ladybug die - Elizabeth Craft Designs
Stickles
Derwent water colour pencils and water brush
Pink pearlized card stock
Sakura black glaze pen
Copic markers
Wiggly Eyes
Fine point markers
3 x 3" envelopes - Stampin' Up

Scalloped Valentine Card with Doily

Good morning friends

I'm back with my second post today - another Valentine! I don't want to hang onto the photos for another year, thus the second post.

I really like this scallop card base by Stephanie Barnard for Sizzix. I have the one that cuts a scalloped front but solid back, so this one is a new addition to my die collection. Of course I had to try it out right away and with Valentine's Day on the brain this is what I came up with.

The cute floral border die is included in the set.

Supplies:
Doily - Recollections
Jar sticker - Recollections
White card stock
Patterned paper - Stampin' Up
Hugs stamp - C.C. Designs
Card, Scallop w/ Flowers & Sentiments Drop-Ins - Stephanie Barnard (Sizzix)

Valentine Pig Trio

Good morning friends

Today's share is a trio of Valentine cards I made last year but didn't get posted.

My friend and Design Team Teammate Kelly Booth sent me these adorable tiny wiggly eyes, which I used on the printed pigs. They are so fun!

The next two cards are nearly identical.

The cards were all similar inside ...

I will actually be back later today with another Valentine card I made to share. I intended to post it next week, but since its Karen Burniston's Design Team Challenge next week I figured I'd rather have two posts today than hold onto the photos for another year. I don't really post Valentine cards after Valentine's Day.

Supplies:
White card stock
Patterned paper - Daisy D, Pebbles, Lawn Fawn
Pig graphic - Lettering Delights
Glossy photo paper
Sticker - Recollections
Stamp - stash
Wiggly eyes
Love ya stamp and die - Stampin' Up
Bic markers
Blueprints #18 - MFT Stamps
Stitched and scalloped rectangles - Elizabeth Craft Designs

C4C420 Valentine Card Duo

Good morning friends

It's Saturday and that means a new challenge at the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. I am the hostess this month, and I'd like to send a big shout out to Kristine Reynolds for agreeing to be our Guest Designer this month! You can find her blog HERE.  This is my challenge this week:   Add a heart to your project this week. You can make a Valentine, put a little heart on a critter, or make a heart shaped card - just show us a heart!

I had an urge to use a sketch for my cards, so I chose Splitcoast Stampers #355. I think I will use this one a fair bit - especially since I wrote down the measurements for it which will make it easy for the next time.

The patterned papers were a gift from my Stampin' Up rep last year, and I barely made a dent in the package then. I also had some of these cute acetate embellishments in my stash so used them as well.

The second card is nearly identical, I added glitter glue to the flowers on this one, and to some of the hearts on the card above.

Both cards were the same inside.

Check out the C4C blog to see how the Crazies have been inspired by the challenge. We'd  love to see your take on it, so be sure to stop by the Crazy 4 Challenges blog and link up your creations. If you are uploading to an online gallery, please use the keyword C4C420.

Supplies:
Patterned paper - Stampin' Up
White and black card stocks
Fun foam
Acetate embellishments
Xyron
Valentine word die - Elizabeth Craft Designs
Stickles
Black marker
Blueprints #24, stitched panel - MFT Stamps
Happy Valentine's Day stamp - Rubber Baby Bugger Bumpers

Birthday Card and Sliding Gift Card Holder

Good morning friends

It's Flip-It Friday here on my blog, and today's share is the birthday card I made for our son-in-law.

I used the 5 x 7 Circle Flip-Its for the card base, and the patterned paper has glossy and foiled bits on it. Perfect for a birthday celebration!

For this one we actually signed our names with a white gel pen on the blue centre strip, rather than writing on the back or adding a label to write on.

I'm pretty excited about this Gift Card Holder too. I had mentioned before having a wish list from Sizzix designer Lynda Kanase and this BigZ die was on that list. I finally purchased it last week!

On the front I added that fun Happy Birthday die from Karen Burniston's newest release. It fit perfectly! I also added a panel of the same embossed orange patterned paper that was on the birthday card.

You tuck a gift card in the slot, and it slides out/forward as the Gift Card Holder opens. So cool! I wasn't sending him a gift card though, and since it was going through the mail I didn't want to send cash either. The US dollar bill is just for the photos. We don't have one dollar bills in Canada, we have the gold coin called a 'Loonie'. For this card I wrote a cheque and folded it to fit in the slot - worked like a charm!

I added scallops from Karen Burniston's Cake Pop-Up - the scalloped 'icing' dies are very handy!

I really am tickled with the way this gift card holder works and I know I will get a lot of use out of it. I like it when everything coordinates, too - so this bright birthday set makes me happy.

Supplies for Flip-It Card:
Blue, white and orange card stocks
Patterned paper - Me & My Big Ideas
5 x 7 Circle Flip-Its - Stephanie Barnard (Sizzix)
Signo White Gel Pen
Distress Oxide Inks
Blueprints #18 dies (stars) - MFT Stamps
Nuvo Crystal Drops
Happy Birthday To You stamp - Avery Elle

Supplies for Gift Card Holder:
Patterned paper - Me & My Big Ideas
Teal, blue and white card stocks
Card, Slider BigZ die - Lynda Kanase (Sizzix)

Doily - Stampin' Up
Scribble heart and love die, Stampin' Up
Banner die - Savvy
Red card stock
White card stock
Banner punch - Stampin' Up
Enamel Dots - Recollections
Wink of Stella
Pink card stock
Stitched heart stamp- Lawn Fawn
